i got your point, just i always buy new car and never keep it more than a year, i.e. sell the M4 in 4 month with 2000km and lost 30k, the current G63 only last for 8 month with less than 2000km, probably will lose 90k due to the bad market, etc. Therefore instead of getting new Ferrari, I wanna try to get 2nd hand first. And I never know how long i will keep the car.

The funny thing is, I kept my rover mini (1970's) the longest until i moved to another country. And i am still hoping to get it back one day...

I had a Toyota corolla for a work crap car for 30 years , over 600,000 kms. One starter , One alternator thats it. No Ferrari will ever do that.

IMO devalutation is not the issue as all cars devaluate some more than others . Its the up keep that will cost at the end of the day.

Definetly agree. Two reason why I didnt get the 458 . No side inlets like EVERY Ferrari rear engine car and the horrible cat whiskers

Where I live there is Lambo dealer, a Maserati dealer, a Ferrari dealer, and others, got to include the ever ugly Corvette too.....when driving by the lots the only thing that sticks out to me, in my mind, the ugly fish gullets that every mid engine has today and they all look the same and that gets old real fast. To think that this type of styling hangs around for who knows how many more years will only make that worse. Also, I won't try to speak for the 458 itself since I don't own one, but the Speciale and SpecialeA that I have are leap years ahead in terms of appreciation. I will say that the 458's have done quite well too. As they say over at Burger King, have it your way, I'll have it mine.

They should be very different to drive so you should do that first. I drove a 458 and didn’t like the low torque it had (among other things) so I bought something else then and I’ll restrict my next search to the turbo cars. Higher torque cars are just more useful and fun for me.

I am also struggling with the price difference concerning the F8.

Could be because they sucked when they were new…..

And yes, I grew up in the mid 70s and the 60s-early 70s were the cars we all drove to high school. And they were junk (except the Corvette, but only our rich QB had one). The only redeeming feature was the large back seats :)

Race seats look new - 0 issues.
No dash peeling. I have 5% Carbon ceramic tint on the sides and 50% on the dashboard. Stops 95% of the heat.
No sticky buttons but I still prefer the touch of them cleaned up by the RX company so I might do it.

The ONLY issue I have had with the car is dashboard rattling but it is a plastic in front of the dash that seems like a simple fix. I made a thread about it. That is in 6 years of ownership.

Maybe you suck and couldn't even afford one back then plus by the mid 70's you were too late! My muscle cars are worth a great deal which says that they are quite valuable. As kids growing up back then none of us liked Corvette's either, other than the mid 60's ones that we couldn't afford. Wouldn't trade any of them for a Ferrari. Disclosure, I own a 2015 SpecialeA also.

Please don't attack other members personally. Try to keep the banter about the cars. Thanks!

He was talking about an era of cars. You were talking about him personally. Big difference.

Those 60s & 70s cars were built so poorly. Massive rust issues, unreliable, poor assembly quality, cheap materials, everything leaked. Little wonder the Japanese gained so much market so quickly.

They just were not good cars....I understand the sentimentality, but if one looks at the era objectively....

We all knew that to be the truth, our HS cars included Mustangs, Camaros, Firebirds, different Mopars, Novas, Chevelles, Mavericks, Javelins, everything from that era was well represented in that parking lot.

My first cars (before I bought my first Corvette (69 Convertible) at 22) were
    72 Barracuda
    68 Mustang
    72 Mustang
    69 Shelby Mustang GT350
    68 Shelby Mustang GT500 convertible

So yeah, I was a poor kid.....

I dare you to drive any Ferrari around in the winter for a few years here.......would end up just as its early brethren did. Junkyard. The nice thing about the muscle cars back then is that there wasn't any common Ferrari out there that would keep up with the muscle. Also, nobody cared for a car back then except for a few that recognized the value and could keep them out of the elements. Back then it was to constantly look for the next new model. Different mindset. Mavericks....huh...

Exactly. The 458 is so fun, and you can’t use the extra power. I have an 812 too. Incredible power, but I will never see half of it! The sounds though…!!!

Others see things differently. Yes the 458 was groundbreaking for Ferrari. But now, it isn’t very thrilling to drive. It needs more power, the excitement from the immediate trust one gets in a 488 or F8 is something the 458 can not deliver. Even though it gets nostalgia credit.

I drove my 8yo around the block and neighborhood in the 458 Speciale yesterday. What I like about that car is I don't have to drive it too illegally around town and it gives me a supercar experience in all sense of the matter. I traded in my Pista for it. That car was better and beautiful, but I didn't smile like I do IN the 458. I live in a busy part of the world, so most of my driving is urban. Maybe I'd feel differently if back roads were closer by. I have always loves the vents on the side of the V8s. The 458 has them, but they are just expertly incorporated. I loved looking in the side mirrors of the Pista and seeing them. There are some details I didn't love about the 458 Italia (catfish front) when I had it, but those are fixed on the Speciale. There's something about it, but I feel like the 458 captures a different era in Ferrari's evolution. A peak of their past ways, with the 488 and on a whole new era. Softer, and more quiet, but faster and more polished. When I drive our SF90, the direct steering and feel is unlike anything else. If I had to pick one, it'd be a 458. It's a good place to start at least.

Isn’t very thrilling? Seriously? I mean the newer cars are faster, but they are also quieter.

Agree about the 458 compared to the new models- definitely nowhere near as thrilling. But obv a great car for its time

If I want to drive ridiculously quick, I drive my Plaid, LOL. I found the 488 Pista dangerous on city streets. Thrillingly dangerous. The 458 is plenty fast enough and makes great sounds. In seventh gear with cruise on, even with valves disabled it is quiet enough. But oh the sounds….and my 355 is even better at those sounds!

Cars can be as fast as one wants to pay and manufacturers can make them. Lots of super cars to choose from. But the 458 is a fantastic sweet spot for modern Ferrari, last of the NA V8 cars and Pininfarina designs. Hard to beat!

The sweet spot where Ferrari really uped their game before going nuts with all electronics is the 430. And it sounds better inside and outside compared the the models after it (stock vs stock). Give it a go vs the 458 and later models and you'll understand what I mean (if you want the real raw Ferrari experience before electronics took over too much). However if you want a more "video-gamish" experience though with zero efforts going trough gears then go for 458 or later models.

Speciale YES 458 NO. The Speciale fixed all the bad points of the 458. Front 100% better , Rear 100% better.

Would have I bought the Speciale if I had allocation Yes However it is slow. Btw you still cannot use all the power of the 458 anyway.

IMO Pista all the way for its styling.

Just my opinion yes the 458 has quasi side vents. Vents you hardly see. A bit like believing that the whiskers on the 458 have something to do with aero.

Speciale is as fast as a 488, Pista obviously faster...but...I don't care. =) I'd rather drive a "slower" car hard than a fast car slow. Pista no doubt for styling. I was sad to WATCH mine go, but didn't miss the drive.

I don’t understand why people say last NA as if it’s a good thing. I mean NA is fine; I had LOTS of them but obv turbo is so much better. that’s why they chose to go with them… and everyone else like AMG, McLaren, Porsche etc etc etc…. You think everyone went with turbos cos they’re worse??? Interesting thought process. And Ferrari has done MUCH better with design than Pinanfarina for sure. The newer post-Pinanfarina cars are SOOOOOOOO MUCH more beautiful and sexy.

    ….wick lit (again)
