Id love to see it without the hybrid stuff but, I think it’s needed for emissions. Sent from my iPad using FerrariChat
No hybrid = far less power. IIRC, the 296 motor sans electric is in the mid-600s hp. Do you really think Ferrari will have their hotted up version have less HP vs the standard? If anything, the VS will be 900HP hybrid...
VS version will have the engine tuned up to 700 hp with 175 hp coming from the electric motor. 875 PS. They'll get 40-50 KG out of the car via various methods so the curd weight will be around 1550 kg with carbon wheels spec'd. That's my prediction.
296 range is focussed on "fun to drive". I think that this focus and the fact that SF90 is top of the range and all about performance numbers means that there is more chance of a non hybrid 296 VS. It appears the 812 replacement will not be hybrid which is encouraging. To me a front engined V12 plus a non hybrid VS of the 296 (or previous) range is the perfect garage.
I think it is very, very unlikely that the 296VS is going to be THAT different than the base car. I would expect the same basic powertrain, obviously with more power and then some (ha ha) weight savings. More extreme styling for "track use". And I'm sure a few other small fun things to make sure everyone wants it. The more interesting part to me is where pricing is going to be. We already have GTBs often in the mid 450's and GTSs above 500k. This won't be a 499/599/799 total build special car, it will be limited but no exact #. How high can pricing really go on these darn things before the market just cries uncle? I could see a 296VS base price (coupe) approaching 500k, and then with options....wow. Staggering if you think about what kind of cars were 600k only 5-10 years ago.
Agree. F12 & 458 Speciale just perfect and a manual 911 with lower hp. Perfect, and in hindsight the end of Luca period, F12 & 458 Speciale as good as it gets and is necessary in todays rules & roads..
Standard 296 did the Nürburgring in under 7 minutes. That's very quick. I am 90% confident they can get more HP out of existing electric motor and also have a smaller battery for weight reduction. Trivial task - power up, weight down even without crazy aero. A 7.45kwh battery should weight about 260-280lbs. Even a slight reduction in capacity will yield noticeable weight savings. Since electric motors are cheap and powerful, Ferrari can easily hit whatever horsepower number they want in the 296 hybrid platform. Transmission's ability to handle all that torque and the Osborne effect from SF90 will determine what that number is.
I don’t think this is a 296vs. 296vs will be a hybrid. No way ferrari will have leas power in the 296 special series. However, This could be what day355 had hinted at back in 2022 when ferrari were testing the STO.
The 296 at worst will have the same electric output and the 700 HP ICE output. Lighter/louder exhaust, weight savings elsewhere, perhaps revised gearing, and some aero changes. at best, they’ll also tweak the output of the electric motors and dial up the engagement factor to 11.
I think so…I highly doubt it is v8tt…otherwise why call f8 a tributo. What would be ballsy is to come up with a brand new NA v8 (if GM could do it with the z06, surely ferrari can punch higher). Although i doubt thats happening either. So im with you it could be a v6 non hybrid…will it be forced injection or not is the question. I would think it would need to be to be somewhat competitive in this day and age of crazy hp. Long live 458 Speciale and the STO. I dont care about 800hp cars. Give me a NA motor and more analog feel in a modern design.
For me, it doesn’t even need to be competitive in the crazy hp market. Leave that to the electrics. Like you said, NA or even forced induction is fine but I just want a lightweight car that is drivers focused and track friendly (GT4 esque) made by Ferrari. That sells
It would make sense to be a street version of the challenge car. 6TT non hybrid. Challenge version is so much faster than the 488C so no need for the hybrid.
Just saw an in car video from testing at Laguna Seca in the new 296 Challenge and it's insane. Many seconds faster than the 488
I would love to be wrong, but I just don’t see them dropping the hybrid system. They will sell enough of these that I can’t see them wanting to afford the hit to their fleet emissions without the hybrid. Maybe the lack of stickers on the prototypes are to test something else, or, I believe it is possible to not require stickers if the hybrid element is smaller- what if its a smaller and lighter battery- maybe less e-range in exchange for less weight? They might drop the hybrid for an Icona as they did with the Daytona but probably not for a VS. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Dropping the Hybrid will give Ferrari a better differentiator between the SF90XX and the 296VS So I can see it happening because in today's market it's Not all about Horsepower. The Driving experience is taking on a bigger roll
