Seeing lots of 458 problem threads. What's going on?
Electronic issues abound. My right screen is out my TPMS system is out, my electronic floor buttons for Frunk and gas door do not work anymore. Who knows what will be next? Just small things, LOL $$$
All part of the cost of ownership imo. I mentally budget 10k/year for maintenance. By that metric I’ve done quite well- only 35k in 7 years. If this is an issue for someone then they shouldn’t buy one or should consider a newer model with more warranty coverage (doesn’t cover electrical).
So it's worked out at 5k a year which doesn't sound all that bad. Is that in US dollars or GB pounds? Does it include the costs of routine maintenance (service, consumables etc.) or is that just your spend on things going wrong?
35k USD. Includes 6 annual maintenance (15k ish total?), alternator replacement last year (10k), side mirror I knocked off in my garage (5k), 3 battery replacements (1k each), tender replacement trying to sort out various battery issues (1k), dashboard upholstery stretching (1k?), repaint underside of front bumper (1k?). Happiness = Reality - Expectations Hilariously my insurance is only $100/month. I have a 2010 model. Best, - Karl
Thanks Karl - I collect my 458 on Saturday and had already put £20,000 (about $25,000) aside for repairs if anything breaks, and budgeted £3,000 a year for routine maintenance and insurance (£1,100 a year for me), so hopefully that will be sufficient! Mike
As the car goes up in age, most of the new owners aren't taking them to the dealerships to bend them over with no lube. Instead you have owners posting here to see if its an easy fix they can do on their own or so they are knowledgeable before taking it to a Ferrari independent mechanic.
I hear all the dealers are cornering the market on Super Glue in anticipation of all the 458s that will be coming in for service.
Yes, yes, and yes. Image Unavailable, Please Login Oh right and my driver side window switch popped off and the whole thing had to be replaced because it’s solid lightweight aluminum. The side mirror was part, repainting, installation, and reapplication of XPEL. Just the cost of ownership folks. I posted in another thread that ownership is like dating an Italian model with a cocaine habit. All my buttons are sticky too but as previously mentioned in other threads my quote was north of 10k to get that “fixed.”
No. That's straight up being taken advantage of. The alternator is $1,000. $9,000 in labor for a alternator?
This has to be a troll right? I had the same window switch pop off twice. Took it to ferrari dealer and it was $50 to fix with a brand new switch.
I went to the dealer and got quoted $1200+ plus taxes for just an oil change. I went and bought a lift and did the oil change myself. Took 45 min. Found missing screws and other things that the dealer left out even though I have been servicing at an official ferrari dealer for 6+ years. Also got quoted $3k+ for brake pad replacement for the front which also a quick job. Anything mechanical ill take to the dealer but fluids and brake pads is the only expense I have had with the car since I bought it in 2018 and put over 20k+ miles on it.
but its solid light weight aluminum! just goes to show you that some people will believe anything the dealer tells them lol
I don’t disagree but it is what it is. This is a forum where retail 300-600k fcars are normal right? Often 2 or more are owned by members. YMMV.
Bro, I’m no fool or FU money. I’m not saying those costs are justified. I tried to jerryrig it for a while but ultimately decided to just get it taken care of. My whole point is potential owners shouldn’t expect the experience to be free from drama or cost.
Good for you, that's just prudent management. I have done the same thing with my SpecialeA. Budgeted so much, if not used, carried forward. Problem solved and so is the angst of having a problem. Too many out there strike the fear of God in those to believe that its going to bankrupt you when in fact, the opposite holds true especially once you get to know the car. In my case, the annual fees have been next to nothing, I change my own oil and follow procedures. Most importantly, these cars are built very well and problems are no worse than they would be in any other car. Electronics could be a nuisance but no fear, that's the other guy's problem, ENJOY your Saturday. You won't be disappointed.
Oh I know. It just pissed me off when Ferrari takes advantage of people because a lot of people don't realize they have options other than the dealer.
2010. Good. I do at least 2 driver education days a year. Daytona for the Rolex each year and I push it. 1500$ each yer for "dealer" service, then to the indy for anything else. a battery should be 450$, an alternator less than $1,000 even at a dealer. I did 4 sport cup race tires at the dealer at the annual service for $2100.00. Wait till the 296 or SF90 guys start having issues.
