Do not buy clutch solenoid from SequParts!!

Hi all,

For a while now I was working with the expert, flash32 about getting my F1 pump to stop going on so frequently.. We changed and did a few things (I will get more into this later in another topic). However My stock original clutch solenoid was borderline, so we wanted to replace it. I ordered a new clutch solenoid from Sequparts in Germany. I expected to get a Marelli part like they show in the pictures here

Well, I got one and it was in a plain white box and the unit has not a single label, sticker or engraving on it. I emailed them and asked them, they referred me to the item description saying it may not look like that Marelli one pictured that they show. Flash32 told he helped a few people and some who purchased this solenoid from them had problems right away and it didn't work. I figured that I am sure mine will be fine..... Well today I finally got around to installing it, removed the fender liner, engine bay cover etc... replaced the solenoid with the new one, bleed the system a few times, followed all the flash32's expert guidance (btw it a was holiday on a Sunday today and he was still helping me by phone! truly an amazing guy!) Well right away the F1 pump would cycle every 30-40 seconds! worse than the stock one I just removed! After talking to flash32 more we decided it's best to remove it and put my old one back until I can locate another, this time original replacement.... After putting my original one back in, it was already better than the one that I tried to replace it with...

I emailed Sequparts and told them... also mentioned others have had this issue from the units they sell. In a very bad tone they replaced saying they sell a lot of these and I must have ordered the wrong unit like others have and telling me I must think I know more about their parts then they do...

Well, it was a lot of work and a waste of the day and many many hours of my time to put this in for nothing just to take it right out, and since it seems I am not the only one, others should be aware. When you google this, it seems they are selling the same generic one you can find on Alibaba made in China... The packing it came in definitely indicated it is from China, and low quality for sure... I won't be buying anything else from them, and others should now be warned about this defective solenoid they are selling.

 

Sad to hear. When I bought one from them it was a factory Ferrari part, and it works great. Good to the know things may have changed since then though.

It is a very bad habit to blame others for your own mistakes. As we have informed you objectively, you have replaced the wrong valve. We sell valves of type QPV02 / QPV10. In some Ferrari vehicles, there are QPV14 type valves used as clutch solenoid valves that have different specifications and are not compatible. In these vehicles, QPV02 / QPV10 valves are nevertheless used to control the shift actuator. We provide clear information about this fact both on our website and in personal consultations, which we also expressly recommend if there are any uncertainties. Unfortunately, you both ignored the information and did not accept the offer to seek advice in advance.

And to clarify these accusations regarding our suppliers: no, we do not sell any products available on AliExpress or other platforms. These valves are manufactured exclusively for us and are not available anywhere else. At this point, it would also be fair to mention that we offer the valves at a quarter of the price at which Ferrari sells them.

Have you really ordered a PPV valve to replace your clutch valve ????

 

That's what I was hoping to get. But instead got an generic one as you can see here. Very misleading they show one with a Marelli label still being shown.

Sorry for you but good to know that all the clutch QPV valves may not be interchangeable, even a QPV04.

When you measured the pump cycling period, was it with engine running or not ? This corresponds to 2 different conditions for the clutch valve.

Since I was involved in helping here I am trying to understand your explanation. Are you saying that the f430 in question doesn't use the 248091 part number specified in the parts diagram for the clutch solenoid. That is the number that is specifically mentioned in the parts diagram for the f430 and as a cross reference on your website. Is there a range of vins that is not stated anywhere i can see that you are aware of to help this OP and others who ordered from your website. I have seen this happen in other areas before due to missing info on parts diagrams. I am not sure i follow.. if the part diagrams are missing info from varios parts suppliers and you know what the correct part number is please share so this can be rectified and hopefully not happen again. I look forward appreciate your knowledge in this. If truly two different parts for the same part number or a.mistake.in parts diagram it would be great to document here for future reference. No one wants to have either a bad part or wrong part when fixing their own car. Thank you in advance.


Or maybe the part you sell is a substitution for the part works as a replacement for 248091 in some applications but not all ???....all i am trying to do is understand to help the community.. so if we.ordered a 248091 from.ferrari woild.that be the wrong part as well

Putting aside the fact an incorrect valve type may have been fitted, you can't just replace a worn clutch solenoid with a new one and expect the pump behaviour to change. It doesn't work like that.

P.S. yes, different types of QPV fitted over the years. I've even seen 10 vs 14 on CFC301

 

We have been dealing with these valves for years and we realized very quickly that QPV04 / QPV14 are not compatible with QPV02 and QPV10. I can't say exactly what the difference is, but if you install a "normal" QPV valve in place of a QPV 04 or QPV14 clutch solenoid valve, the pressure loss described occurs. These valves are proportional flow valves that are controlled via a PWM signal. Apparently the control signal for the QPV04 / QPV14 valves is different.

I'm not quite sure about the Ferrari numbers. We always try to provide OE reference numbers on the website to the best of our knowledge and belief. In the case of these valves, however, we deliberately point out the problem that there are different valves and want to advise in advance to avoid problems.

The OP clutch solenoid has a high leakage rate (when engine is running) which causes the pressure to drop very quickly and cause the pump to run more freq ...that is what he is referring to.

So if I may based on your comments ..part number 248091 points to a QPV04/14 which is needed here specifically on this model but others where the same part is specificied a qvp02/10 can be used?? If that is the case I can see where the confusion exists

All that being state do you have the correct part for.OP year etc regardless that part number 248091 is specified


What makes it harder is that based on OP there isn't even any label on it to know which type of solenoid he has .. or is there to know ?

Hello Dominick, Yes, understood, but depending on the car, replacing with a brand new solenoid and bleeding the EVF circuit will not stop the pump overrun behaviour.

 

On suggestion if the part isn't a direct replacement for part number 248091 stated on your website (although you mention that your part doesn't work on all applications) maybe you can note it more specifically.

If was a new person and did a search on part number and found your website with that crossxref I would assume (badly) that the part number already accounts for the differences (like it does in most places)

I guess that is what happens when not ordering OEM ?.

Not sure I follow ? All the testing pointed to a leaking clutch valve (boarder line bad).. the bleeding was.part of the install procedure.

Please explain

A number of timings were performed and based on that an new accumulator fix the timings with key on/engine off. but engine running was.still a tiny bit low ..which points to bad clutch solenoid

The bottom line as to the part itself

I think regardless of the note on website..when someone orders part number 248091 from a vendor like ricambi , Eurospares etc they get the correct part they will work on their car ..in this case , forgetting the disclaimer, the part crossxref on website although the correct part number can get you a incorrect part.

It is not fair for a DIY or even a busy mechanic to have to question a direct crossxref part

I think something should be noted next to part number that it isnt a direct replacement..or remove the xref all together

I will look into this and check the OE part numbers. If it turns out that one of the numbers on the website is incorrect, then that is of course a point that we should improve and we should apologize for. However, this does not change the fact that we have a clear note regarding compatibility on the site (even above the OE part numbers) and point out the preliminary consultation in case of doubt. This post here is not only unfair to us, but in my eyes defamation.

There are actually several possible reasons why the pump is constantly running, for example a faulty pressure accumulator or an internal or external leak. And an internal leak may very well be due to a solenoid valve, e.g. if the plunger is badly worn and no longer seals properly.

In this case, however, it will (primarily) be the valve, because if the installed valve is controlled incorrectly (the QPV14 / QPV04 has a different PWM control), the valve may open to a position that creates a connection between the pressure side and the expansion tank - i.e. an internal leak

 

Yes, aware of everything thanks. In this case the EVF was identified as the culprit, but even so, just replacing a faulty valve will not necessarily cure the symptoms (pump overrun, poor clutch control/slipping).
