Marcel: When we repaint the car, do you think we should "restore" it with the bumpers. I assume the concours judges would want it that way.

Dyke, if you don’t restore the Beverly 7 July 1956 bumpers, you might as well not bother. They are the best part of the car.

Wrong caption on this one Marcel. This is Bandini in 0846 in 1967 tests in April, not 0832 in 1965.

I did not write any caption. I stated "Rain at Le Mans".
It is not my photo and I have no idea who identified the pic, it comes from a German photographer.

Thank you for sharing! The photos I posted I came across on Facebook awhile back. It is nice to see more photos from Walterboro as well as other SCCA events.

If there was ever a car built for Elkhart Lake (a true "power" circuit), it was the 315/335/ 412MI. The brakes were as good as anybody else's, but the motor, oh brother! What a motor. I have been lucky enough to have many hundreds of miles behind the wheel of the 412MI. The engine is very smooth from 2,000 rpm and really takes off about 4,500, but at 5,500, it just goes crazy and pulls like a rocket all the way up. I never went beyond 7,000 rpm, but Phil Hill told me personally they used 8,200 rpm for endurance racing and more in the shorter races. He always said they were his favorite racing Ferraris.

    Terrific period photos.

Chuck Weiss (co-driver 0684 at Elkhart Lake) said that it was the most fantastic car/engine that he ever drove.

To me it is the perfect combination anyway: 0684 is one of the top 3 comp Ferraris ever and Elkhart Lake is a truly sensational circuit. Add in a hero like Phil Hill. It really doesn't get better than that.
Sorry for the modern photo in the old photo thread, I took this in Beverly Hills more than 20 years ago.

Agree for sure. Since you mentioned it, what in your opinion are the other chassis' in the top three?

    Marcel,
Regarding 0684. I saw the car when it was presented restored at Pebble Beach. I have always been puzzled by the seat restoration, a ribbed pattern in bright red (vinyl or leather, can’t tell). At the time, most period pictures show these 313s/335s seats upholstered in a darker gray cloth, plain surface. Or in one instance a perhaps a beige material or cover. I have never encountered an interior picture of Taruffi’s 0684 at the MM. Would you know if the restoration team found clear evidence or specific event photo of the seats to support the red upholstery as restored? For example, just one month after the Mille Miglia, 0684 color photo clearly shows the the gray fabric at Le Mans (race No. 8). Curious, after such a detailed restoration. Thanks.
