Roof Adjustment

Best to take it to the dealer if possible. There are many moving parts involved, and some are fragile. You don't want to make things worse. Best of luck!

 

@Mhoram , I'm not an expert by any means, but can you please clarify.
Are you talking about with the roof up or down?
Is the rattle only there in one position?

The "roof" never comes directly next to the "tonneau cover". In both positions, the rear glass is in between them.

If you mean the bottom of the rear glass is closer to the tonneau on one side than the other, then what does it look like at the top? The glass might have been installed on a bit of an angle (or replaced at some point that way). There are directions for this in the service manual (page 1319 of the PDF available online), but I don't know what you can do about it.

If you think that the issue is in the tonneau cover, then removing that and re-installing it (including adjustments) is on Page 1311+.

But given the issue that some have had with this roof device not opening or closing properly, I'd agree with the advice above that you get a competent dealership service department to look at it.

 

I absolutely agree. I’m the first one to try DIY repairs and upgrades if possible, but the RHT is one system I would never fiddle with.

 

FWIW , if I may suggest, clean the rubber seals and contact surfaces on the body first. Liberally applying gasket / seal treatment after cleaning.

From my experience, that along helps with RHT noises.

Also, gaps and panels don't always look the same or align.... adjusting so they do appear “ correct “ may lead to additional operational anomalies.

YMMV , I’m just suggesting starting with the easy stuff 1st

I'm so used to the panels looking misaligned that if I see a Ferrari with perfect gaps and everything aligned just right, I assume it's been in an accident and repaired

My 2015 was just in for its annual and I asked them to clean and lubricate the top, and it operates much more smoothly and I would say it's quieter now.

 

Anyone have similar experiences with a noisy top? I notice the creaking and rattle from my passenger rear corner. Compared to my SL55 (which is tight and silent) it is very annoying, and I want exhaust my DIY options before I take it to my local dealer.

This will help with the creaking.

 

Thanks - I did the Krytox application today on the seals/contact points of the rear glass to tonneau cover and roof to front glass pillar area, additionally I applied some WD-40 on frame joints, and it appears to have addressed 95% of the noise/rattle issues.

I still hear some minor creeks and it looks like I will have to find other points/joints/contact areas to lube up any other recommendations?

 

I believe it was in the Shop Manual, use the Krytox on the rubber seals between the roof and the back glass panel, be careful, don't lose a finger.

 

Do you know the page? I guess I need to do some reading.
