Same here in my little corner of NJ. I get attention from car people, which is just fine with me.

I trust it as much as a pampered 20 year old car can be trusted, which is to say I'd probably choose a newer toy if I didn't know my way around cars. On the plus side, most issues are well known, so it shouldn't be too hard to figure out when there are problems. The most annoying thing as with all cars this age is NLA parts.

Yep! A few months back, I put on lowering springs and a new exhaust. The 997TT is so much faster and more comfortable than the 360, but it's so damn soft.

Lol, Mine has been relatively trouble free but it was well maintained by a single dealership it's whole life and it was driven regularly enough. Now, my ex wife on the other hand... :D

I drive the CS (gated) and 7.2 3RS back to back somewhat frequently.. nothing will ever be as emotional as a Ferrari. But I feel like I can go to war w the RS. Everything feels more solid even though it’s the rawest version of a 911. Having said that, it seems as long as you take care of the 360 and do the maintenance it’s a super solid car.

I spent several months and several thousand sorting mine out, then I took it on a vacation that ended up being 5,555 miles, driveway to driveway. It was flawless.

They can be made reliable, but it isn't cheap. And it's not only about fixing things, it's also about getting ahead of things.

Having had a few early gremlins with my Scud - I cannot stress enough how important it is to have a very good strong battery and keep it on a good tender. Every one of my niggles disappeared when I put a new AGM battery in it and bought a new 10a ctek charger. They just seem to be ultra sensitive to voltage variation. I will get an anti gravity battery when I get a chance, couldn’t find one easily here in Europe.

Well, my trust issues have gotten better. The more I work through the issues and fix the bugs, the more I trust it. At this point there isn't too much left to do mechanically. Just gotta dial in the cams the proper way and go through the suspension and it should be where I want it.

Drive it locally for a few weeks at least 3 times a week locally ..work out all the kinks and then you will have a reliable car just like a bmw of the same age

I’m a Porsche guy. I’ve owned multiple air cooled 911s(one being a highly modified turbo conversion done by me) 996 turbo, 997 carrera s, 987, 981, and currently a 718 cayman T. Porsche has never let me down, unless you consider a blown 915 transmission in my turbo 911 conversion(which I cannot blame Porsche for that)
I now have a 63k mile 360. In my opinion, the higher mileage cars will be much more reliable. I’ve driven mine almost 4k miles since buying it last October. I have not even had to put so much as a drop of oil in it. The previous owner did a new clutch in it before I bought it. It will need a timing belt service within the next year, but will be doing it myself. The 360 is a very owner friendly car to own as far as maintenance goes. I would trust my car to go anywhere and get me back home without issue. It’s proven itself reliable so far and I don’t see that changing anytime soon.

I’ve had mine three years. First year was a little rough getting used to it, but now that I know it, I have no fear or concerns about it whatsoever.

The top was a giant mess and took me two years to fix completely but now works flawlessly.

I think honestly was part of my fear was the car was a bit of a stretch for me financially when I bought it but now it could burn down and I wouldn’t care at all (financially at least).

Shortly adding fcar #2 so it can’t be that bad right?

Beautiful car! Here's mine. In 7 years I've only had a few minor problems:

    - Oil pressure sender
    - Alarm siren battery
    - Shifter linkage out of adjustment
    - Top Rams needing flush/adjustment
    - Aftermarket exhaust needing adjustment
    - Re-Glued airbag cover for a leather bubble

However this reliability has come at a cost of extensive scheduled and preemptive maintenance:

    - 2 belt changes
    - Both fuel pumps replaced
    - Heat exchanger replaced
    - All coolant lines replaced
    - All tires & brakes
    - New battery

Probably more things needed over the next few years like another new battery, suspension bushings and full dash reglue, stickies. It is a 20 year old car!

Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login My 2004 gated TDF spider....great car. bought at 19K miles...lost in a fire at 49K. I'd get into that car for an east coast trip from california anytime. Issues? yup. Bad exhaust precat....cut them out, clutch at 20K...leaking slave....clutch at 48K bad Hill Throwout bearing....clutch disk and plate...perfect. Top, no issues really but change and top up fluid regularly. amazed at how a slightly low fluid would stress the system, brakes sure....tires...of course...clutch distribution block cracked...new one from hill, that cracked after 25K, both fuel pumps at 40K...what year is yours? do you wrench yourself some? I did all my annuals, brakes, etc. bigger stuff, belts and clutch paid for. Big checks? yup. worth it? Yup, I had a stage 3 Capristo exhaust, cold air intake, Had just redone the ecu mapping 4 days before my shop caught fire! Didn't even get to drive it with ecu upgrade!! Relax, drive it like you stole it and enjoy. People in my FOG group couldn't believe I would keep up with all the newer cars...including the big v12's...maybe not on a straight...but in the curves...up their backsides or in front LOL. Enjoy, I miss mine a lot....really wish I still had it. Looking forward to another Fcar soon....F8 spider is calling me...

It's designed to be daily driven. Enjoy it. Once you get it sorted it will be as reliable as a 986 or 996. I went through the "can I trust it phase".

Give it a few months and you'll feel comfortable to drive it cross country.

I find this post funny, and by that I mean i am in your shoes. I feel nervous as HELL when I drive it. Don't care about onlookers. I know how to drive a stick. I think with SOME owners this hesitation/nerves/anxiety stems from each person's financial situation too. Some owners with 12 F cars and in the upper tax brackets don't sweat some issues that come up as they've got the funds no matter what happens. Some are not similarly situated, hence some nerves and anxiety. I see some idiots that treat their F cars like they're Toyotas. I am the opposite. I'm crazy about my cars. I cherish them, take care of them and know that others aren't considerate nor care about you or your car. Good post my friend. Lot's to sort here. Don't get me wrong, even if i had 12 F cars, i'd still be crazy about my cars. take care of them, park them way out, never valet, try to keep it in sight, etc....We're all built differently....To the OP, enjoy the car, it really is a great car that's reliable and as long as you tend to it's needs you will enjoy it like no other car. Cheers

I've only had mine since October, so no long term trust "issues" yet. So far it's been stout. I trust it as much as any other 24 year old car.

My expectations are that wear items and age related parts will need attention like any other old car. In my short ownership, I've replaced the clutch master cylinder, and dealt with a bad o-ring seal on the AC condenser. I'm a firm believer that the more its used, the more stout it will be. I'm also looking forward to more DIY projects and maintenance get to know it better and improve it.

Just hit 93k miles, it takes lots of maintenance, but its very fun after all this time. Keep the oil fresh in the transaxle, set the PIS down super low, so it just drags a little in 1st. Go to N at lights, Shifts way faster, I on my 2nd clutch in nearly 100k miles,.

Have a watch of some of Sam's videos of his former 360 Modena and now his Challenge Stradale. He takes them on huge roadtrips and is not afraid to use them as they should be....

I went from a '04 996 Carrera 4S, which I'd had for 4 or 5 years, to my '00 F1 360 which I've now had for 18 months. There's a lot of positives - road tax is actually cheaper, tyres are cheaper, suspension is softer so it drives a lot nicer under 'normal' circumstances, more room in the frunk. I had the Porsche maintained at a main dealer, so the cost increase from that to an independent Ferrari specialist isnt so bad either.

I think I trust it, but you do have to make allowances for 'Italian-ness' - like the dashboard leather and the sticky-ness, the radio has a bit of a mind of its own too, and not being able to open the bonnet without getting into the car, and then the fact that the bonnet release needs two hands to operate - is annoying. I dont find the seats to be particularly comfortable either to be honest.

The oil temperature gauge is a great thing to have - that's the real indicator of when the car is ready to go :)

Doesn't the bonnet (frunk) release switch in the rear centre console next to the fuel filler cap switch work?

No, not really... I just tend to take them in stride these days. Still no fun to be sure. Yet as I get older I find that there's very little that I can't just shrug and take care of. Not so when I was younger though-- HA! But of course when I was younger I had no idea about the real catastrophes of life that awaited me in the coming years. Perspective is the key for me.

The absolute worst thing you can do to a Ferrari is NOT drive it! The harder you push these cars the better they run. And they are reliable if you USE them. I’ve owned both brands and still do. The car I had the most trouble with was the lowest mileage car. Porsche imho is the best car on the road. Bullet proof really. Still can’t keep away from Ferrari. Truly a raw visceral driving experience. So my advice, drive it regularly and don’t pamper it.
