    Why would they take the buyers fee if there’s no sale? The high bidder isn’t obligated to contact the seller afterwards. Maybe that was just their max offer and they gave up when it didn’t meet reserve.

    I think he means that similar to the big in person auction houses, that BaT could reduce their commission to make the sale happen if the price was near the reserve. Not sure if BaT does that or not.

    BAT described it as the seller experiencing a personal emergency of some sort.
