A very interesting thread! Not that I will ever be in the position to share these same experiences with these incredible cars, it's great reading about it all. Cheers lads.
If you were going to pick one. Which one SF90 or Pista and not for a track day. Most of my driving is highway unfortunately
SF90 hands down. Faster, more comfortable, better interior, and better creature comforts. Pista is more like a bucking horse. Loud and always feeling like you are on the edge. SF90 is more like a triple crown-winning horse. Pista can scare a driver. The SF90 Will scare your passenger!
Any old ****box, on crappy tyres, can scare its driver. Being scared is not a metric of automotive excellence.
Never owned a pista but own a 458. I would never replace my sf90 for a pista because it would feel like I'm sitting in my 458. Also, I appreciate the hybrid when I just want to drive out from the neighborhood without making a lot of noise. Sf90 is something unique design wise. If people say that sf90 has been over produced, then the same would apply for pista. Only downside with sf90 is the day you will have problems with the battery and warranty is out...
Sf90 is in a different world than a pista. Would never go back to a pista. I’d take the 296 over a pista any day as well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Neither are ideal for tracking. The Pista cant handle hard laps, the brakes will die quickly and the SF90 is too heavy and will also eat its brakes quickly. Also, most tracks wont let hybrids on as they aren't equipped for battery fires.
I track my Pista regularly. I agree the OEM carbon brakes will fade, but an easy swap to ST and the PIsta can do lap after lap. No sweat. And, fwiw, hybrids are welcomed at my track. P1, 918, etc. all welcomed.
The stocks on mine were done after about 5 laps and I wasn't really pushing. I never tracked it again after that. It is a shame that a track oriented car cant be tracked from the factory.
What conditions did that happen with? I’ve tracked 458 Speciale quite a lot and Pista Spider too. No issues. The fluid is the weakest element but that’s easy to change. You can’t mean you went through rotors in 5 laps surely?
Pads were done, rotors were ok. I sold the car shortly after. I would destroy a Speciale in 2 laps, it wouldn't have a chance. I won't track street cars any longer, it doesn't make sense. I have 2 Challenge cars and Porsche Cup car coming. If you want to run a few laps at a time and not push then you'll be fine but that's gets boring to me.
Once you get into real track/ race / cars, the street cars just feel like toys. It got too high performance for me so I never went that far but I did get some experience and even the most mighty street sports car will be destroyed on track by a very typical track car. F8- sure you could compare- but then you are at even less involvement and performance than Pista. It’s just a bit more GT overall. I think then the comparison is the F8 and SF90 both are great GT type cars but the F8 has more storage space. The SF90 is a totally different ballgame of performance. I never thought the lack of storage would bother me but then I wondered where to put my camera bag I brought along for a journey… it took up the footwell and then I had no where to put my feet. Of course, if most driving is done solo, then this is not a problem. Sent from my iPad using FerrariChat
Of course a street car cannot compete with a real track car; but with other options than OEM (switching Brembo to ST and Pagid) the cars could be OK... Often though, the street car needs to rely more on power than on real ability - but it's still fun to drive by road, make some hot laps on track, and drive back by road.
No one is expecting it to perform like a race car but when it is marketed a track oriented car, you expect better.
That's an issue with current Ferrari marketing - customers are not supposed to have specific expectations, it's just about pricing and exclusivity. The typical buyer for the so-called track oriented car doesn't give a *** about track, he just wants to show that he's wealthier than the buyer of the regular version.
