It was ok, nothing special. A tenth between him and Charles, but gaps are close here so position difference is 4 places. He yellow sectored his 2nd run in Q3 too.
Honestly speaking Ferrari was a complete let down. They need to figure out the Quali pace, it's hurting them like crazy.

 

A tenth up against the guy whose widely accepted as the quickest on a single lap in F1 currently.

I repeat, excellent effort.

My point is there was more in the car than either driver was able to do. Leclerc's sector 3 in his Q3 was really bad, he was ahead of Sainz at that point of the lap.
Leclerc hasn't seemed comfortable at any Quali thus far in 2024. Ferrari really need to think about their set ups and how to make the tires work in Quali. SF-24 one lap pace is bad compared to its race pace. I don't think podium is in the cards tomorrow, Sainz is gonna be stuck behind Norris and Leclerc behind other Merc powered cars.

IF we have strong race pace with good tyres wear then everything is possible.

 

At some point, Leclerc has to step up and show he's worth the contract he's been given. I mean, for all the bashing of Sainz, he's equaled Leclerc in terms of race day performances. Now that the car is no longer a tire heater for quali, one has to wonder if that made Leclerc's abilities look greater than they are, given that quali has been what's flattered his value in the paddock. He's starting to remind me of Montoya. Great passer, great when the car works well for him, fast over a short stint, but inconsistent and mistake prone.

Anyways, Ferrari are wise to design their car to keep the tires cooler, even if that means sacrificing quali. I personally thought Mercedes 'better on Sunday than Saturday" strength of their previous concept was awesome, and I like Ferrari trying to do something similar.

 

Leclerc is not a finished product, his ability is hyped up by the media imho, not champion material. Pity as i like the guy.

Exactly, the aim is to win the race not qualifying on pole (although i like pole as well). Improve race pace and races can be won from anywhere in the top 10 of the grid, with good strategy that is!!

 

Time for Lance to try Tennis or Squash.

He seems to like this car more overall. Or has adapted a touch better early on now.
