    Hi All,

I’ve had the following issues with my 328GTS, in this order:

    1. when there are big changes in temperature from cold to warm, my garage smells like fresh gas. If it stays cold, no smell.

    2. I went to start the car tonight and it was very slow to catch. I gave the car gas while cranking until it caught.

    3. It was not running well out of the garage, and I smelled gas. There was wet gas dripping from in front of the right side rear wheel. The garage floor also had some fuel on it under where the leak would have been.

    4. I opened the engine bay to see that the manifold rubber boot to the airbox was split and half off.

I suspect that the boot being off led to too much air in the system, and hence the difficult start. It’s it possible that I simply flooded the engine when starting, leading to unburned fuel leaking? I had the fuel lines replaced a few years ago and I don’t see any leaks..

Second question is, was maybe the gas smell from the boot being split for a while but unnoticed?

Rifledriver is on target. It is clear you don't understand how the system works. The rubber boot won't cause any issue. You have a fuel leak from somewhere and that needs to be addressed by someone that knows the system well. I agree, park it outside, find a technician you like and trust and have it towed there.

    Rifledriver 100% correct.

Most likely you have a leak from a fuel hose. If you have raw gas and fumes, its dangerous. Get it into fresh air and have it towed.

The good news is that some of these hoses are not difficult to replace. However someone's injury isn't.

Check the fuel pressure regulator to see if it's dripping fuel this is also referred to on that car as the frequency damper but it is essentially a fuel pressure regulator. Report back and I'll have some other suggestions. One drop of fuel can smell up an entire garage

Thanks, again, everyone, for your advice.

My car had two problems. The first one is that there was a leak in the vent tube/pressure relief system coming off the fuel tanks. It was leaking a drip here and there when it was really pressurized, which is what I was smelling for a while.

The night I posted, I had tried to start the car and it wouldn’t catch and run. I cranked it much longer than usual, and gave it some gas, too. When it did finally start and run (badly), I pulled the car out of the garage and smelled the raw gas smell. I also noticed the broken and disconnected air box hose. So that was problem two, which prevented the car from starting properly, causing me to flood the engine and create a gas cloud (and with the airbox open).

i fixed (replaced) the airbox connecting hose first, and installed two clamps. It started normally once again. My mechanic checked for leaks and found the vent hose leak. That’s taken care of now, and the car is running great with no gas smell. I took it for a 50 mile ride today, and it’s performing beautifully. Image Unavailable, Please Login
