Aural delirium--fantastic!

I attended that race and the passes took place directly in front of us. I've been a Jean Alesi fan ever since.

Great photo of a great group. I still think that Surtees should be knighted.

 

I guess the bottom came in Montreal, when Scheckter, the current World Champion, in a Ferrari, failed to qualify! I saw him race his last race a week later in Watkins Glen, where he started 22nd and finished 11th and last without having passed anybody.

 

Entered F1 as Sideways Scheckter and exited as a reigning WDC with his tail between his legs.

 

I think Jody Scheckter had reached his goal and motivation had deserted him by then.

Nico Rosberg exited F1 even more abruptly.

 

Sir Surtees sounds like a stutter. Sir John I guess?

 

Sir John would have been the correct way to address him.

 

I prefer il grande John.

 

That didn't save his job at Ferrari though ...

Berger in the 640 at Goodwood Members’ Meeting. Glorious….

 

It would be nice to hear it at full beans? I consider myself very fortunate to have seen the cars of this era in competition. Those were the days my friend . . .

 

Yes, the demonstrations can be frustrating, although Berger got it going down the Lavant Straight a couple of times there. Last year it was both surviving Brabham BT52s with Patrese and, I think, David Brabham. Those cars were so beautiful. Two great designers represented…John Barnard this year and Gordon Murray last.

 

Lots of blue smoke??? Not very tempting then to go all the way to the rev limiter

 

The Brabham had great livery which complemented the lines, I remember at some point they reversed the colors(blue and white).

 

It appeared to clear up later in the run.

 

That livery (my all-time F1 favourite) was designed by Peter Stevens, of McLaren F1 road car fame. Flipping the colours was easy because the paint lines were lightly scored into the bodywork moulds to facilitate quick taping.
