What a pleasant problem to have. Receiving two copies in error. And of what sounds a high quality book. Wish it happened to me ! unless the phones have stopped working in Germany I’m sure a call to the publisher will resolve the problem.

My first impressions, having carefully gone thru this new Millanta book for about 2 hrs:

Overall excellent photo reproduction and print quality. Paper is quite heavy and quality is high. It is obvious that certain pix have been heavily post-processed, again, the original negatives are 75 years old, I am fully aware of that. There are 3 or 4 color pix in this book, one being the same pic as used on the cover of the old 1985 Millanta-Orsini-Zagari “Ferrari Automobili 1947-1953” book. There are at least 3 photos showing an Alfetta and not a Ferrari. The author or person who did captions does not seem to know the plural of the Italian word “Monoposto” (Monoposti).

Sadly probably 90 percent of the photos show single-seaters, and only few photos show one of the sports racing Ferraris (like a 166 MM Barchetta Touring, or similar). This new Millanta on Ferrari book covers the years 1947 to 1952. Considering that by 1952 quite a number of sports racing Ferraris had already been built I personally would have expected to see more photos showing these, and less single-seaters. But that’s just me.

I was shocked and disappointed to see the incorrect caption of one photo clearly taken at Carrozzeria Alfredo Vignale in Torino but unfortunately mis-identified as taken at Ferrari in Maranello.

Only two or three photo captions include a chassis number. To my great surprise, the caption of 2 photos of a fatal accident involving a 166 MM Barchetta Touring contains the chassis number. To my knowledge/memory, this is the first time ever that the corresponding number has been published in a book (in my opinion, the chassis number given is correct and can also be found on factory documents).

At least one (other) car is wrongly captioned as a 166 MM Barchetta when in fact it is a 225 S. I also noticed that one or two people's first names have not been reproduced correctly, in my opinion.

Did I expect more from this new book? Not really. Would I buy it again? Yes, BUT ONLY because I buy every single Ferrari book anyway and as a seriously addicted Ferrari information junkie "I have to have it". It is very much a simple photo book with captions, not really with any fresh information (for me), but yes, I know, I am biased. Is it expensive? That is very relative and impossible to say because we all have different pockets (I was charged Euros € 386 for one copy, no problem with that, for the same amount I can fill up the gas tank of two of my Ferraris). In a way it seems to me a bit of a rehash of the now almost 40-year old original 1985 Millanta-Orsini-Zagari book. Just larger format/size, much better (2024) paper quality and photo reproduction, of course. Seems to me that one pays for the paper and the print quality, because a large majority of the photos have already been seen in other books. I do hope that the binding will be better than the 1985 copy, let's talk about that in 40 years.

    My 2 cents.

Absolutely correct! The artificial word "monoposti" is mainly used by non-native speakers of Italian.

Alternatively, you could use the word "monopostos" in foreign languages as the word "monoposto" has become such a familiar, frequently used part of foreign languages that you can apply the foreign way of forming the plural form of the word.

I also received 'Millanta on Ferrari' yesterday, just one copy. IMHO it is a high quality production (photo reproduction, paper etq.) that we do not see all too often. There may be the occasional omission, but show me a book without any. I'd recommend it to any serious student of history, but only in its least expensive form.

Re new "Millanta on Ferrari" book:
Just got notice from a good friend that he too received TWO (2) copies, instead of one (1), today.
Not kidding. See also post #6971.

The postman just handed this to me. Only time for a quick flick through so far but it looks excellent and wasn't expensive either. No limited edition dodo skin cover or whatever.

Incidentally, the book says six sons (Marcel's list doesn't include Domenico) and two daughters.

    Six sons total is correct.
Domenico was born 1923, had serious health problems, died as a teenager.

Reading here about errors in books reminded me of this link set up by the authors of From Voiturettes to Formula 1 published by Negri.

    https://www.maserativoiturettes.co.uk/index.html

Excellent idea and I will put the corrections in my copy as a separate sheet of paper.

it seems that all books have typos or technical errors.

I suspect that you and your friend…and perhaps others…received copies which were intended for someone else who paid for them. If so that would be a monumental screw-up by the vendor or its fulfillment contractor.

Excellent! I just had shot photos of my copy which arrived today as well and wanted to post them here ;)

My first impression is like yours: excellent book. And wow: what fantastic modern images of Uovo at the end of the book!

Let's see how reading goes on. Some impressions and sample pages as usual at the weekend at Instagram.
