There are some interesting documents with that car. Particularly the Aviso di Spedizione and the window sticker which show that Maserati sold the car for 22 000 USD to the US importer, the dealer sold it at 42 000 USD. Gross margin therefore 20 000 USD. Is or was doubling the manufacturer's price usual?

Well I am not in possession of specific info on this but yes it is well known that importers/distributors/dealers make hefty margins. It is not a two stage process but three. That is why the factory price to importers, and in turn the importer's price to dealers is a closely guarded secret. In fairness importers have a lot of costs and expenses to cover so to operate properly without permanent risk of bankruptcy they do need a robust margin.

Does anyone know who currently owns Khamsin 1174?
.. the last evidence I see on this forum is a post from a new owner/member 'Sierra Bravo' here, in 2009...
    Thanks,

    Hello Art,

It was sold to Germany and as far as I know last seen advertised with 21153 Miles at this dealership in February 2011:
CPI Sportwagen GmbH & Co KG In der Florinskaul 2
    56218 Mülheim-Kärlich Germany.

They declared they were the ones who brought it from the US.

I have no news of this car since.

Date of production 20 October 1976
Grigio metallizzato (metallic grey) with white interior.
One of a handful sold new to Canada, US spec.
    Early life unknown.
Barret Jackson Arizona auction 2001, now black, interior still white. Bumper conversion already done, which is good it was still quite rare at the time. Now at least 80 of the 155 US cars have had it done.
The auction text stated: "Beautiful Khamsin in triple black with white leather. Stored most of its life. 18000 original miles. Recent tune up and service including hydraulic system. In as new condition."
Sold US$21600 (this is when no one in the US had a clue what a K was, hence before values rose.)

Owned by Ivan Ruiz for some time By the time he bought it the interior had been redone in red. Sold on.

The Fchat member Sierra Bravo you mention was probably Seamus Blackley a very nice guy in California who bought it in 2008. We exchanged some very nice emails, he was very enthusiastic about the car, mentioned he drove it a lot so I was very surprised when he sold it. Something must have happened.

2010 for sale at Autosport Designs Long Island NY. On to Germany.

First photo is 2001 auction, note white interior.
Others from when Ivan had it.

Interesting that it has a Euro steering wheel being a USA car.

Several owners of US cars have sourced a Euro steering wheel and fitted it, such as Bart vdW when he had the T Top K 1142.

The brown (tobacco) Khamsin on BaT did not sell... I believe the high bid was at around $120k...
In my opinion it was worth much more - maybe $140k to $160K... These cars continue to
be under valued !!! On the other hand - that could be a good thing for those of us who like to
    drive them!

    Hi Mike,

Yes the bidders were not committed enough. I agree with your valuation. They have always been undervalued in the US.

In Europe three, maybe four, cars sold in the past couple of months, 380, 144, 378 and perhaps 056, and they were not cheap ones.

That auction car, 1224, is a good one, I am sure it will find a good home.

    Hello Marc

I took photos of a black Khamsin with red interior at the Garage of Limacher in 2015.
It was then registered in Freiburg, Germany, FR CT 111H, this is the last time I have seen it
In my records this is the VIN 1174 car.

    Regards, Roger

    Hi Marc

on another note, I thought I would know the car advertised by Oldtimer Australia and recently on the following link:

    https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/maserati/khamsin/over-2000cc-engine-size/

    but checking all the cars I know to be in Australia I did not find a match for this 1979 example;
    apparently delivered originally in the UK in the colour combination of Oro Longchamps and Fungo;

Marc, didn't you have a complete list of cars delivered to the UK?
Please look at the special seat backs and instrument panel of this car!

    Regards, Roger

    Hi Roger,

I am convinced I wrote about this car just recently but can't find my post....

This is AM120-417 which was owned for a few years by Edwin Faulkner in the UK. Here is what he wrote to me a few weeks ago:

"The car was purchased from Roger Stones on the 20th June 1989 and
registered on my wife's name i.e. Pamela Faulkner

We sold the car by Sotheby's auction at Hendon on 9th May 1992. I was
sorry to sell it, but, we required the money for our business at that time.

Roger Stones bought the car from Corley Motors near Coventry, who had
completely rebuilt it after it was written off.

It was showing 28000 miles when I sold it.

I had it on the Maserati Club display at the very first Silverstone
    Classic in 1989."

Then after that auction the car disappeared...for 32 years!

Now we know that it had been bought by an Australian and shipped form the UK to OZ where it was stored all that time. It is great to see it re-emerge so well preserved:)!

Obviously Corley Motors or someone before them chose to change the color.

Mark Janssen the dealer was in touch a few months ago when he first go the car, long before he started advertising it.

Regarding a special instrument panel I think the Australian converted the speedometer from kms to miles, as is done often when a car is sent to or from the US/Europe; I did that on a 924 Turbo in 1993: from Florida to Europe so converted it from miles to kms with a notary public certifying that the km figure set on the new one matched the miles on the old one multiplied by 1.6 of course. Interesting seat backs yes, wonder if it is factory. It might be a modification from the time when it was totally rebuilt in the UK before Edwin bought it. Same for the dash top.

Here are period UK photos from that 1989-1992 spell that Edwin sent me recently.

A Khamsin friend found some documents belonging to 1174 amongst some Maserati ephemera he purchased. The goal is to reunite the documents with the car.

That is very nice of you.

If you don't get anywhere with that German dealership contact Garage Limacher in Horw, near Luzern, Switzerland telling them they serviced this German registered car (FR CT 111H) in 2015:

    https://limacherag.ch/

    [email protected]

They can then forward your email to the owner. The Limacher son speaks English but keep your email simple.

Marcus Limacher was actually our travelling technician during KHAMSIN CINQUANTA last June, he came along with a mechanic. I am glad to say he only had one short intervention to do on a Khamsin during the touring rally!

He owned AM120-100 for many years and is one of the top Khamsin specialists in Europe or anywhere.

Has anyone owned a Khamsin with functional brake pad wear indicators?
If so, was it perhaps accompanied by a dash indicator, or audio buzzer?

I have an NOS pair* of brake pads, with built-in wear sensor wiring, they were bought with a stash of Khamsin parts, and look accurate for a Khamsin.. Table 21 Part 08..
*(each front caliper gets one such pad. The opposing pad is without the sensor wiring)

Printed information: Mintex Brake Pads, MDB1232 02115404 A/F34E FF

What is a little odd is, my Bora has the wiring in the front wheel well, and also has sensor wiring in the pad, but I'm not able to track down any schematics or Owner Manual information on a warning light or buzzer. These are definitely not Bora pads.

    Anyone share any experiences?
    Grazie,

Ground the wires going to the sensors and see if something in the dash lights up.

    Hello...

Need some technical help here! The starter solenoid on my K is shot.. The solenoid is a Bosch unit with a part number of 0 331 401 008.
Sounds like this should be easy to get as I found plenty of replacements with that part number. But, when I ordered one of the replacements
the main barrel of the solenoid measures approximately 62mm diameter. The original solenoid main barrel measures approximately 57 mm.
When I tried to fit the solenoid into the starter, the barrel was to big such that it interfered with the wires from the starter itself to the solenoid!

    Any ideas, replacements, etc...

    Thanks...

    Mike

    Mike

I have an extra solenoid with that part number that is 57mm in diameter. It is old and has been previously repaired. My guess was that the starter contacts got pitted and they cleaned them. How successful they were with the repairs is anyone's guess. I tested the solenoid and it engages and the stater contacts short out when engaged. Unfortunately that bench test does not mimic the real world environment where the starter motor has to turn over an engine and therefore the amperage is rather high.

Take a look at these photos to make sure the fork and rear contacts are the same. I also have another solenoid that has a different parts number and the fork is different. I'll be glad to send it you if you think it will work.

Khamsin 373 previously discussed here after it’s unearthing seems to be for sale again at much the same price it achieved l when last sold.

    https://www.carandclassic.com/l/C1719996

looks like a new front bumper has been sourced, or the original repaired. So now it just needs everything -1
    Mostly it needs love though!

Khamsin 1224 was delivered to our home address in time for my birthday... Yay!

A very nice, low mileage example in 'Tabacco' and 'Cinghiale' that you'd think had a very good chance of being "unmolested", but I think during its life of pampered existence, most owners sent it to a shop for any and all work it needed.. and shops can often miss the mark, so I am correcting a list of mistakes made over the years...
    - Incorrect: fuel pump, door swing limit straps and fittings, windshield washer tank and pump, horn compressor, headlight door pistons, lug nut covers..
..Then refitting rearview mirror, source a missing spare tire 'cushion', the spare tire grille isn't opening properly, US spec headers are leaking... etc..
