Thanks. Scary that 4 different dealers can't figure out a small block Chevy.. GM's only made 100 MILLION (and counting) of them.
Now that you mention it, my C8's torque converter has been acting up lately. :)
    Probably needs new muffler bearings.

I’ve been told the factory has advised the dealer to replace the ION module with my new 296, as upon scanning it, produced over 40 fault codes (mostly voltage related). I’m not certain exactly what the ION module does, other than being involved in regulating engine spark and being located on the rear passenger side, requiring removal of the wheel and body liner.

Anyone have similar issues or familiarity with this module? Apparently, ETA is 2-3 weeks from Italy. So, my brand new car, which was delivered to the dealer a month ago, won’t likely come to me for another month (assuming this actually fixes the problem). Obviously, extremely disappointing and not the experience I expected…

Hi everyone i'm new here and this is my first post. Soon i'll be in Maranello to spec my 296 GTS at their Atelier, already have the allocation for the car (delivery fall 2024). Reading all these problems stresses me out, also because i'm planning to bring the car to events and rent it out to selected people. Am i doing the worst mistake of my life here???

If I may, why would you rent your car to other people?

No car is solid in this digital age. Ferrari will solve your problem if you are patient. Those who have multiple cars and don’t mind Ferrari took months to solve the problem usually have less complaints :)

Hi! I would rent the car out because i'm coming from a background of absolute poverty and thinking that i have to spend 4-5k/month just for a car, drives me crazy. I worked hard to reach this goal (it will be my first Ferrari ever) therefore i plan to rent it out for some occasions and make money out of it. I'm aiming at bringing donw the monthly cost to 0, the market has a 2kEuro/day asking price so the car will stay away 2/3 days every month. I love Ferrari and my former room is full of posters etc (i'm 32yo) but the fear of spending money is imbued in my bones so.. yeah.. "bring the money home, car!" I think I sense a slight touch of hirony in your reply tho... so i am making a mistake after all :D

You should do what you see fit.

As for losing money or not, for that, you will be better off with used 812 GTS. 296 will lose alot no matter what. Also if there be any damage, it will be enormous because it has two systems in it.

812 GTS though may not be last NA v12 but it might be possible to be last NA V12 hardtop GT of all. Still have to see what next GT open top will be but there is a rumor it being soft top and if this happens then 812GTS will stay as a unique figure.

Good luck with that and I hope you have amazing insurance that will cover a rental. First person who you rent to and crashes the car, your insurance will probably deny the claim, their insurance may not cover it and you will be out a ton of money.

it's a nice thought to rent the car out to offset costs but in reality it's a ball ache - the insurance costs are crazy and the people who rent them out don't treat the cars with any respect, usually are inexperienced and tend to crash them often

Beautiful car indeed! Hope you have tons of fun with it!! :D

I had an 812 for a few months, it was a rental. The car is gorgeous and goes like crazy but i've found it somewhat too big for my tastes. I've felt the car's weight IMHO.

The best car ever, for me, was the MC20. Impressive drive experience and the 296 felt exactly like that, that's why i went for it. Still madly in love with the Superfast too tho.

    Cheers!

Thank you everyone for your kind replies,

I appreciate your rightful concerns about something risky as renting out a car but hear me out on this and how it works:

In Italy there are events in which multiple sport cars are being rented out for people visiting our country. (i'm now entering in this business with my future 296 GTS, that's why i picked a GTS instead of GTB)

You can have a blast around f.e. Tuscany and then relax in some pool with a nice "aperitivo". The entire experience isn't about blastin the car itself, instead it's about living our famous 60's "dolce vita". When moving from a place to another, there is always a car ahead that dictates the rhytm, so you'll find yourself driving quickly but not madly. It's a complete package to get the best feelings out of every thing you do (resting, going for a hike, driving, exploring, relaxin on a "costiera" beach). This very feeling is the exact same feeling that our dear Enzo wanted to convey with its cars! Ferrari is about having an astonishing fast car but also luxurious, it's a statement and doesn't need to speed like crazy, it's almost unelegant if it does, it's THE gentlemen's choice. People that pay for these experiences aren't your everyday diehard carguy wantig to reach 220mph on a city road... usually they are 50+yo guys with their wife or partner, already having a similar car in their collection. Renting out a car for these events isn't about going fast, it's about making a statement and experiencing the best that Italy has to offer.

    Cheers!

Interesting - a friend and i just did this in Emilio Reggiano for a few days touring around Modena and of course Maranello in a black rental 488 Spyder…. The car was driven very sensibly (my friend is only used to Porsches) and returned entirely intact and was a lot of fun not least as wherever you pull up in a Ferrari everyone is friendly you can park wherever you like! Even let us park in the parking lot in front of the historic entrance to the factory…. On one hand i would highly recommend the experience especially in a country like Italy but as an owner the idea of renting out any of my cars no less a Ferrari would be a step too far… wouldn’t be able to sleep at night…. and definitely not in the UK.. (not sure is even economically viable for a private owner)

Sorry to hear this and is very strange compared to my experience in the UK. I can leave the car for 2 or 3 weeks even not plugged in and with the hybrid battery down to 1% and it still charges up and drives just fine. I make sure to start it in Qualifying or Performance mode to get the engine to run immediately to charge everything back up. I understand your car is new but at least in UK from mid 2023 they changed the low voltage 12V batteries which used to be Lithium Ion in the previous generation of Ferraris (which would go flat in a few days unless you always trickle charged) to more common Lead acid batteries you get in most cars and this holds its charge very well. Note I can also monitor the level of both HV and LV batteries any time in the Ferrari App and also in the security tracker system I installed

I think there a few video clips of renters crashing Ferrari's in Italy.
What is the insurance cost for this business? Must be astronomical.

I don’t know about “all cars”” but certainly on mine and was a fairly new change at the time because they had just inserted an extra sheet of loose paper into the owners manual mentioning it. After that, I saw a few people here had also noticed this change on their 296s. The only person that can give you a definitive answer I guess is your Ferrari dealer or service advisor.

Today was my first drive of the year (snowy country), I started with Electric drive mode and only after 30 meters the car completely stops uphill near the only exit of my apartment complexs driveway blocking the entrance. Electronics work, you can use the interface, change manetino but the car won't start at any mode. Also it can not shut down. Engine is off. Hybrid systems fail - go see a dealer. The car was plugged on the whole winter with the official charger.

I remember the discussion here about this type of error. When I got my 296 gtb last year I asked the dealer that has anyone experienced it but he said no. After battling with the car 15 minutes it finally shut down by itself. So I just started it with no problems engine on. No angry neighbours. Luckily it was late hours. I went to a drive and every mode worked perfectly.

What I have learned is it is always better to start the car with engine.

My 296 died this week after I took it out to clean my garage and left it unplugged for 4 days.
I was able to revive it, but not without lots of difficulty.
    1. It was locked and dead and would not open doors with remote.
    2. I finally found the emergency key (I recommend putting it in a safe place that you remember, it is critical, there is no other way to get into the car and a replacement is $1300). It opens counter clockwise. Turning the key requieres force.
    3. The charger door would not open.
    4. I measured the voltage of Low Voltage Battery in the passenger’s foot rest, only 2 volts. Digital charger would not start. Old fashion charger would make all relays click and would not charge. I disconnected the battery. It has a quick disconnect on the negative terminal, not easy to get to. Pressed the button and pulled it out towards the back of the car.
    5. Used old fashion charger to raise it to 8V (connector got hot) and then a digital one and left it in slow charging all night. I tried to star car at around 11V to no avail. It is better to wait to at least 13V.
    6. I reconnected the battery, was able to start gas engine and back to the garage to connect it to charger.
    7. It took a few tries but finally I got the charging message (9 hours left). I tried after about half an hour and it gave me “engine control failure” and would not start. I decided to leave it until 100% charged.
    8. The car finally started again, but the engine control failure would not go away, even after disconnecting and connecting LVB. Remember always to cycle lock/unlock, windows down and up and open and close front trunk after connecting LVB. It is in the manual and it is important.
    9. I cleared the error with my ODBII scanner. The port is directly above the break pedal facing upwards.

Hope this helps, I won’t ever leave this car unplugged again.

    I miss my F8 Tributo.
