Even by your math NLC has received circa $300 million in royalties. Oddly enough, my daughter is a mine manager for RIO. She has a soft spot for Gove as it was the first mine she managed. She tells me there were retrospective agreements in place and 'other' money spent in maintaining good relationships.

The real question is what was the money used for? Was it used to help lift all the indigenous people of the area out of poverty and hopelessness, or did it just make a few people very rich?
The smart ones on here KNOW the answer to that question. Helicopters, fancy properties, expensive lifestyle.............While others in the region lived with on going poverty!
Unfortunately it probably was squandered by some (or many) - just like most people who win the lottery are broke in 5 years... but that's not the point... Unless you want to argue that ALL mineral rights should be Commonwealth property and ALL profits belong to ALL Australians .
