So I bought a new chain for my Mondial T and out of the bag, it was not joined. It came with the master link but it’s just a press-fit. In any case, I carefully pressed it together but should I trust this? I can’t see how I can just rely on the friction fit to keep it together.

Should I center punch the ends to flare them out? Or a cold chisel?

Its made to peen over. The back side needs to be solidly supported. Then with a drift pin and substantial hammer hit each one very smartly and very squarely a couple of times.
