There's some red tape to that. We don't know if he's going to Ferrari for certain. Newey's contract has him locked in with Red Bull through the end of 2025, followed by a year gardening leave, meaning he can't touch another F1 car until 2027. Hope he had some exits in that contract.......
Newey leaving Red Bull is very good news indeed - even if he decides to retire. Newey joining Ferrari would be brilliant news!
How do you know this ? A WCC and WDC with Ferrari would be the cherry on the cake for his legacy. Aston Martin is just another artificial top team in the making.. No additional glory.
He’s had so many offers from Ferrari over the years and he never does it. I don’t think he wants to live outside England. It may be good to have him at the Scuderia however I have zero expectation. Time will tell. Additionally what a great negotiating tool an offer from Ferrari is to motivate Stroll.
Attraction for Aston Martin would be nationalistic pride, working with Honda again, and maybe Max too. Ferrari draw… maybe he really wants to work with Hamilton, though I can’t believe he thinks he’s still that good, prestige of working with Ferrari, and maybe a ship load of $$$.
Frankly, Sometimes I wonder what I do on a forum dedicated to Ferrari.. Vasseur and co are doing a great job of rebuilding and some cannot even realize that this team has become really attractive..
+1 Looking a Newey's history with other teams, all U.K. based, and the previous and ludicrous offers of the past with Ferrari which Newey has turned down, I believe Newey has 3 choices: 1) MercedesAMGF1 (offers more money and has it) 2) Aston Martin and last and least likely is 3) Ferrari
You’re missing the point. Vasseur and co are on the path to being competitive with RB without Newey. He may feel like working at Ferrari would be more hassle than a challenge. People who love The Scuderia think it’s attractive. He never has. Senna didn’t either. Ross Brawn said he felt it would be too easy to win with Ferrari again. Sounds insane to us however they are looking from a much different perspective.
Newey has said he wants to work with Hamilton. I can see that happening. The prospect of designing a car for Lance Stroll can’t be particularly appealing.
To make Lance a successful driver would be the greatest engineering accomplishment in the history of man.
There's also the possibility of working with MercedesAMGF1 with Russell and Kimi Antonelli(if he comes on board into F1 after a year at Williams).
This could also mean Newey's retirement from F1 as well. Anyways, should Newey leave RedBull with the intention of joining another team, Newey has to serve 1 year gardening leave...fyi.
Well, as of right now, RedBull haven't heard of Newey leaving or his intention to leave at the moment.
Well, even if he doesn't go to Ferrari, it would debilitate Red Bull, wich is not a bad thing right now.
I imagine Pierre Wache would get a significant bump up though. Adrian's biggest focus on the RB18 - RB20 was suspension. RB would certainly feel the hit of Newey leaving but there are some extremely capable guys within that team. A rapid implosion I wouldn't imagine just yet.
