Anyone having problems with the 296?

Haptic controls are not safe. Half the time they don't even recognize you are pressing/touching them. I dislike them a lot.

 

I hate haptic touch with a passion. Touch screens in cars was the start of an awful thing, but haptic and touch screens is just bad design and dangerous.

They don't care about their customers so it's unlikely they will care about E NCAP.

 

Haptic controls are terrible. Just awful and the only thing about my car that makes me consider selling it.

 

Same - get a 911 Turbo S

 

If you don’t want haptics, I’d say F8. Traded my 992 Turbo S in for a F8, and the F8 is the more exciting car for sure. Then I went to a 296 after the F8, and it was even more exciting.

 

I have both TTS and F8. I like both. Ride and special sauce prize goes to the F8. Under the radar, less attention prize goes to the Porsche.

Both are fantastic.

Agreed. The perfect car doesn't exist. It's almost like Ferrari introduced sh!tty haptics just to keep it real.

 

I actually don't mind the haptics now that I am used to them. I hated the 992 Porsche haptics and the EVO Huracan infotainment at first. Just took some getting used to.

 

I agree, few hours/rides and they are not bad at all. Would I prefer buttons yes. Like this 296 ride a lot, very happy with build quality and paint. Not a rattle anywhere. No issues with the sound, especially above 5500 rpm. Have owned several F cars prior so a fair amount to base this on. In the end, buyers choice as to what they expect and want.

After 5 month with the charger during winter break it showed an engine warning after the first start in april. It did not disappaer during the second time driving, so i have to head towards the dealer again.

 

I think any car would not like being driven for 5 months

 

My Pista and 812 gts don‘t have problems with that..

 

Given how many people see dead batteries on the Pista, you've been spared the annoyance. I do wish Ferrari would take reliability of their cars firing up to no issue more seriously, but most owners that stick it out this long get the picture and the deal.

 

Agreed on haptics. When they updated the software with the 296 to turn off the steering wheel buttons after a timeout/delay, that took away most issues. I never have issues with the voice control system turning on at all, ever. The touch controls for the mirrors and axle lift isn't that responsive sometimes when my fingers are more dry, which isn't awesome for a car of this price.

Build quality, paint, performance, sound, and look back factor is super high on this car. Since the hybrid battery is supplemental to an already awesome powertrain, I'm hoping that the engineering behind it built off of learnings on the SF90 regarding durability and life of the battery (i.e. full charge, for example, is not really max charge for the hybrid cells to extend life).

 

Spend about 30 minutes in the car, and the haptics become almost second nature.

People who complaint about the haptics are just like lemmings.

They complain because everyone else on the interwebs do it.

 

I’ve not only gotten used to it, but I now like it. I really like how it locks and you have to wake it up so you don’t accidentally hit something. I wish my AMG had that as I’m constantly swiping something on the steering wheel by accident.

 

Facts. It is actually quite usable. Especially after learning holding the "Home" button after waking up the controls takes you out of CarPlay and into the main Ferrari screen with the tach.

 

Haptics in the UX for cars is sort of like when the iPhone was first introduced and everyone will still a Blackberry acolyte.

Reaction was no less than "how the fkcuk am I suppose to type on something without physical keys?!?!?!"

A few years later, maybe even sooner, like when the iPhone 3G was first introduced, it was a non-issue and people were more focused on screen size, speed and battery life.

Humans. We will never learn.

 

I just picked mine up on Saturday. Once I found out about holding the "Home" button to get out of CarPlay, how to wake the controls up after the auto lock and how to stop the front parking sensors coming on automatically every time I stopped then I was good. Would I say it's the best interface I've ever used, no, probably not but honestly it doesn't take away from the driving experience of the car for me. I think it does help to make the interior even more beautiful and uncluttered. Very happy to be a 296 GTB owner.

For the most part I’ve gotten used to the interface but I think a useful feature would be a “do not disturb” or “focus” mode for times you just want to enjoy a drive without CarPlay ever popping up and taking over the dashboard or accidentally waking up the big map..
