I had some spare time the other day and decided to have a thorough poke around under my Mondial 8. When I removed one of the under trays I noticed the gear selector rod (from box to gear stick) looks like it is rubbing against the fuel hose that joins the two tanks. Could this be a selector rod adjustment issue, possibly engine mounts or something completely different?
I'd vote "engine mounts" (or prior mis-assembly of engine mounts) as none of the selector rod adjustments AFAIK would change that situation. The SPC figure implies that there is some selective vertical shimming to be done -- as the C-shaped spacers (item 32) are usually a "use as required" kind of thing that can be added or removed without complete disassembly: https://www.ferrariparts.co.uk/diagram/ferrari/mondial-8/001-engine-gearbox-and-supports
Thats great Steve, thanks so much for that. I was looking at the price of engine mounts and nearly fell over! I will check to see if there are in shims in place at the moment and will order some to get the necessary clearance and ensure everything is level, as from what I can gather the engine may be leaning slightly towards the front of the car. Thanks again, I will keep you posted!
Very good. The SPC isn't super clear about this, but since the shims 32 are only used on the front motor mounts and since the quantity is shown as 6 total (with the Italiano note translating "possible assembly") = makes me think that each front motor mount could have anything from 0 to 3 shims present as required.
One more check before you spend money on the engine mounts: The shift rod section from the centre tunnel end (where it connects to the shift rod inside the centre tunnel) to the sump has got a bend in it. Make sure this bend is going upward (to clear the fuel tank cross feed) and not downward.
My shift rod is Straight. Someone might have bent yours. ( forgetting to remove it, and pushing it into the foreword hole, prior to engine dropping. )
Thats a great suggestion afterburner. I have ordered the engine mount shims as per Steve's suggestion, as I do not have any fitted to mine and am waiting for them to arrive. In the meantime, I will check the rod as a slight kink in its construction to clear the hose connecting the fuel tanks would make would make sense. Yelcab, the price of a new engine mounts isnt exactly what you would call reasonable, but I suppose what is, especially with shipping costs and exchange rates atm, so Steve informing me of the shims was brilliant. Appreciate the guidance with this one, I will let you know how I go!
