@NGooding thank you for your post. Honestly the phrase sounds like something someone would say out of frustration having been asked that question hundreds of times. It's likely there were dissenting voices within the design group or even higher up in the chain. Manzoni most likely was under enormous pressure to produce and likely encountered lots of pushback internally and externally. I don't believe he's condescending or arrogant. It's not like he just did the design last week and someone just asked him if they can paint the black bits. Edit: also the guy in the top gear vid is quite cheeky. I mean he's in the building where Manzoni is the boss and he's talking crap about the design elements. I wonder how the tone of that guy was when asking Mr. Manzoni about the black bits?
Some questions come to mind about painting the black bits, when have you known Ferrari to ever leave money on the table, I bet they’ll let you paint the black bits with TM or have them in carbon etc. Also 12C seems like it could be an Icona like @day355 said, I wonder if they’d use the same platform for a future Icona SP4 or SP5? If so what could that be since the “normal” production car is already a tribute to the 365 GTB? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Anyone worried that the active aero flappers are going to look odd being deployed on a spider with the top down? I'm trying to picture it and it doesn't seem congruous with what I think is a gorgeous and elegant side view on the spider.
I agree it’s probably the last. The name makes sense in that case, but really only if it’s the last. I was referring to other Ferrari V12s of the past as options. He may be an employee, but he was brought in for a reason, or chosen amongst other candidates. He has lived and breathed this car for quite some time, so I understand his commitment to it and passionate responses when it is questioned. It’s only natural, as nobody likes being called out. I remember a quote from Chris Bangle about the 7 series having to look the way it does. Car and driver, or whichever publication quoted it, responded by printing “that’s ok Chris, nobody has to buy a BMW.” Artists are different[emoji6]
I understand your poont of view. what I don't understand is how you "quoted" me , but change the key words I said. Got me reading my original post to double check what I said. I tent to avoid insults even if don't like something , so was surprised by my "harsh " words.
Or peelable paint. I'm astonished that a lot of people here don't realize it exists. I'm not talking about the cheap stuff, there are a lot of high end versions.
Yes, trying to decide now if I should buy an F12 (my favorite design of the three, no GPF, hydraulic steering), an 812 (GTS an option, more interesting specs available) or this one (likely the best engine, I can spec myself, but struggling with the design). Or maybe move on to another part of my list (330 GTC, Speciale are candidates). But man, I was looking forward to another F140. Was hoping and expecting that it would be an easy choice. Yes, I realize how fortunate I am that this is the choice I'm struggling with.
Indeed. We are lucky to discern amongst these incredible machines. The GTS is phenomenal. Speciale too…
Nah - IMO the best way is to take up the challenge and come up with a spec that comes together nicely
Nice looking car. I like it, wouldn’t want one. Was too vanilla for me. Kinda underwhelming actually. This new car falling short is no big deal for me. If the new Vanquish turns out to be a disappointment like this one, doesn’t matter: I already have my due dodici in garage. Again, too old, too tired. Life is too short to drive an ugly car. Easy.. F12 & Speciale, best 2 car Ferraris to have in the garage. Pininfarina, Analogue, no GPF, all the power you will ever need today and on hindsight were both watermark cars before L de M left. That’s what I’ve done after selling the AF SF90, F12, my old Speciale bought back and the final one will be a manual 911, probably 991 R or 991.2 Touring or a Restomod.
I like the 575 but never was a fan of the 599/612 era. Liked the F12 except for rear treatment which the TDF solved IMO. Actually love(d) the 812 SF but don’t love the C. Some things have grown on me while others have not. Ugly is a personal taste. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Same. I also look at the F12 v 812 battle the same way. I won’t argue and agree with both arguments. For me, the 812 just looks the $$$$ part better. The F12 is not 575 vanilla by any means and I could be just as happy with it as with the 812 (now that I don’t track any more). The uterus didn’t bother me- only 2 rear lights did. To all you haters, if the designs since 2010 are so bad, how does Ferrari stay in business? You are going to say its because everyone who buys a Ferrari is no longer a "car guy" or a true Ferriaista or whatever. They are just label seeking numbnuts. Pluueese, there aren't that many douches around. It's all subjective. The 812 pictures weren't that flattering either. Then folks started seeing them in the metal and well, we know how it turned out. It's nice, but not the best in the history of the company. So, it's fine to say you don't like it, or it's a misguided design, or not your vision of what a Ferrari is; bad naming, bla, blah, blah. But the vitriol against Manzoni and the rest of the inhouse design team is a little embarrassing. It's like sitting in the bleachers of a pro football game. The epitome of the great, unwashed, uneducated public. Just watch the game and STFU.
Agreed, I find black cars with black interiors some of the most boring and least imaginative on the planet, regardless of brand - each to their own!
The appeal of black on this car is that it hides the black bits. They're all I see in any other color. They work for some, but not for me. Once they're hidden, I actually quite like the car. The problem for me is, I'm with you: I don't want a black car.
Say what you will about the designs since 2010 and I agree with some you regarding that subject, but the fact remains since that time Ferrari has been very successful just look at the stock price that's all you need to know. In fact once I started realizing what they were charging for the special cars ie Atelier and Tailor Made models I promptly bot the stock! I haven't been disappointed so far.
