V12 Sound

Anyone hear a 12 cilindri yet? Interested to hear thoughts on how the sound compares to the 812.

The sound seems like quite a let down. The 812 with the Novitec exhaust was one of the best sounding cars in the world. This however as stock is of course very muted. i wonder how much an aftermarket exhaust can unleash the sound? Not sure if It can match the sound of the 812 with a Novitec. It has the engine for sure but dont know how much GPF and sound reduction they've done. I heard its capped at 70db due to environmental norms.

 

This is insanely muted and muffled. This is what concerns me the most. Yes it’s the V12 but man it’s quiet on this video. Hopefully hearing it on track may be different

Yes seems more quiet than 812 . Anyone can help us ? Do we have some technical info fo compare the two cars ? This point is very important !

 

Wow. So muted and the pitch is so much unpleasantly lower. Damn the regulations.

 

The Cilindri’s exhaust has been limited to 72 decibels due to stricter noise regulations. The work around was to direct more sound into the cabin. This is down from 91 decibels for the 812 Superfast.

Agree. Novitec full decat 812 is no question one of the best noises to grace the planet.

 

Deal breaker, 72db is Mercedes S class quiet

 

What I don’t understand is how the measure the db . Because even after 2016 there was an european law to put down to 72db the engine noise … but is wrote everywhere that the 812 was 91 …. ( but also the Sto , aventador etc.. )

Regarding EU regulations 12C should be 2 db quieter than 812 GTS.
91db is maybe the maximum noise.

Mainly there are two measurements:
1) moving vehicle - measured @ 50 km/h - limited to 75 dB (for sportscars, 2016-2020)
2) standing vehicle - measured @ idle and 50% of rated engine speed - unlimited (?), but the value that the police measure after they stop you, must not exceed the value in your vehicle documents.

The document describing the limits and how to measure etc. is roughly 60 pages long, so lot's of details.

The manufacturers use calibration and valves in the exhaust system to ensure compliance with the 'moving vehicle' limit.

 

72 dB is definitely valves closed. I would imagine valves open its similar to the competizione. If they neutered the muffler then a simple rear box swap plus valve controller should do the trick
For reference my stock gt3 was 98 dB inside the cabin at 8000 rpm at full throttle. There is no way the 12c is that quiet outside. Maybe at a large distance away per the diagram above

I don't understand why they can't offer a different exhaust for ROW cars outside the EU, either standard or as a 'sports exhaust' option?

Most of their market is outside the EU anyway, and it isn't that hard to develop or implement.

It is possible that these numbers aren’t comparing apples to apples. I’m hoping the 72 decibels number represents valves closed. It’s hard to believe the car would be that quiet at wide open throttle.

 

Actually 91db isn’t just 20% more than 72db, it’s actually closer 100x louder. Decibel rating is on a logarithmic scale not a linear scale. 72db is super quiet.

Yes but in reality 91 db seems was a data inside the cabin of the 812 and to a high speed. From my understanding 812 gts is 74 db ( valvled close ) and 12 cilindri 72. Anyone can help us?
