No car is universally liked (well maybe the Scud, ha). But as far as Ferrari V12 coupes in the last 50 years this seems to have the most detractors.
I don’t think so. What about the people still crying about the back of an F12. What about people who don’t like the 812. Still ragging on it. The 12C being so edgy is pushing more buttons and people may be crying louder however it’s always the same. Time will tell.
The F12 is a beautiful car overall. The 812 is a handsome car. The 12C is good looking in the way that maybe abstract art is good looking (you have to really look for it and convince yourself of it). But the winglets are a travesty. Perhaps that's the difference. There's no feature of the F12 or 812 that is so terrible.
I agree. There are many designs which are essentially beyond criticism … however these are usually the VS models, which only a few hundred people can buy. Imagine how profitable Ferrari would be if they styled their REGULAR PRODUCTION models like the F12 tdf, 812 Competizione, 458 Speciale, and 488 Pista. I fully understand that these models are a reward for VIP customers, but they could always make the VS EVEN MORE aggressive and powerful… WHY DO THE REGULAR PRODUCTION MODELS HAVE TO SUCK?! Ferrari’s entire design strategy is wrong. And as well as they are doing, they could be billions more profitable and valuable if they did what I outlined above …

What I find interesting is that this design language change is well demonstrated when Ferrari went from the 275 GTB to (ironically) the 365 GTB/4 Daytona. They couldn’t possibly be more different. Both loved now however the many did not like the UN elegant Daytona compared to the flawless 275.
Like I said, no car is universally loved. I'm sure someone can find a flaw in a 250 SWB. (I can't. ) Every new design will have its detractors. The Roma wasn't "Ferrari enough", the 296 wasn't aggressive enough, the back of the F12, well... Some of these critiques fade in intensity with time. The same will be true of this car. So its a question of degree. My sense (from this poll, a straw poll at my car club, unsolicited texts and comments from friends) is that this car is more divisive than most Ferraris.* That doesn't mean that I'm interpreting these anecdotes correctly. And I'll confess that I'm probably touchier about this car than I would be for most models given how important it is. The last NA V12 Ferrari production car wouldn't be the place I'd choose to take big design risks. --- * The FF, Lusso and PS are probably more divisive, but I'd attribute this to their category (shooting brakes and SUV), not their design.
I'm still a newbie to Ferrari but it seems to me the latest designs all convey a sense of design cohesion and family of cars with a common DNA. This has to be intentional and cannot be random.
I agree. Like I said, this car pushed the envelope a lot which pushes peoples buttons. So they are screaming louder than normal. I think this car takes a lot of risks with the design. In regard to the FF. Talk about taking risks. When I saw it I was thinking “wow, essentially no Americans like shooting breaks.” LOL It’s a very European design.
The 12C needs to be judged not just on its exterior design (controversial as it is) but as a whole package. The interior is terrible. It’s too big and heavy. The innovations in this car amount to a couple of minor aero flaps on the rear deck. It’s not exactly a ground breaking formula. And all with a hefty price rise.
I just got back from being at my local dealer for the F-1 race and I can tell you they already had a large stack of indications of interest for the NEW V-12. We can all say things that detract us from the car but it looks to me like the car is going to be a big hit.
Io sono contro ! BRUTTA! Senza minchiate elettriche . From the home country the view from Roberto Razzi is decidedly down...
NO!! Pass on principle. Don’t waste someone else’s allocation!! Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Of course I see your point but it is his allocation and he's undecided. Is it wise to abandon the allocation when he's not certain about it?
I'd say the 458 recieved near universal praise for its styling but other than that I can't think of another.
The 550 Maranello was certainly controversial when it was released. Perhaps due to the lack of social media commentary this is not so obvious today but I remember many people calling the design boring and it's smiley face was lampooned at the time.
I never have a problem with the back. I just can't deal with the front. I cannot say this is at all beautiful. Image Unavailable, Please Login
