I was a HUGE Mike Bossy fan, just as much a Gretzky fan. We were lucky to watch these guys come into the league, play, and retire. We were also lucky to see the same of Joe Montana, Mannings, Dr J, MJ, Bird, Magic, Roger Clemons, all the stars... I was a big Bobby Clarke, Rick MacLeish, Reggie Leach, Bill Barber fan, too, along with Bernie Parent.
Buh-Bye TBL. Caps, as well. Dang FL Panthers are showing strong. Big 'un tomorrow evening - Toro back at Bos. Jay what's your take?
I guess I was a bit surprised to see Philly has not won one since 1975. I thought they had won one or two since then... guess not. I went looking in here, go take a look at the 'modern era', look at who the coaches were for both teams, and who scored the final goals for each series, that brought back a lot of memories... from 30+ years ago (for me). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Stanley_Cup_champions
The closest they came was 1987, when Ron Hextall and Mike Keenan were both rookies for the Flyers. They faced a powerhouse Edmonton Oilers team (Gretzky, Kurri, Anderson, Coffey, Fuhr etc) in the Stanely Cup Finals and took Edmonton to 7 games....but just didn't have the horses to close the deal. It was remarkable enough to push that Edmonton team to 7 games.
Up 3-2 now with a chance to close them out tonight....this is an exciting series, along with the Nashville-Vancouver series.
This has been a different team the past 3 games. Been a lot of fun to watch. I really love watching some of our younger guys Of course I went to games 1&2 which were tough to sit through. Maybe I was just bad luck since they are 3-0 when I’m not there
We can say that about most teams in the NHL, NBA and even MLB. One game a team is dominant in a game, and the next game it's like they take the night off. And it doesn't make any difference who the opponents are, good team, bad team, no diff.
Game 7 Tranna-Broons. Too bad the (arguably) two best teams in the entire league will face off next week.
Yep, 4:00 EDT Sunday, Mike. I was watching a Canadian hockey show and one analyst was talking about the exciting Canes-Rangers series, and he said "Too bad it has to come so early in the playoffs-would have made a great SC Final!" And let's go Leafs (sorry Jay)
AND buh-bye, Trawna! Now have two superb matchups in the east. No weaklings remaining. Going to be fun to watch!
Whew! The Bruins have a real problem closing teams out. Great game last night by both teams, but I’d be lying if I said I felt confident in the Bruins chances with the way they’ve played the last few games. They better not take two or three games off against Florida or it’s going to be a really short series.
Full disclosure: I’m a Rangers fan. But I’m being perfectly honest when I say the Canes are still very much in it. This series is an extremely close 2-0 right now.
The first OT period last night Carolina must have eight 4 star goal attempts and Igor got every one. Special teams and goalkeeping - that's the formula. I am not a fan of Freddie Anderson.
Carolina Ryan. Solid team, sensational coach, jerk for an owner but has deep pockets. Players are classy and well schooled, plus you get to root against NYR and Broons.
