Perfectly timed as their quality is lacking and has been since day 1 and they cant even sell an E-powered truck lol. Ford is one maker I never take seriously. Its just a 'ride along' with RedBull so the cool pictures of the Ford logo are on posters in Ford dealerships selling ****e cars.

i doubt Ford is actually a proper partner. They are i think just paying for branding purposes, with hardly any involvement, maybe just a little in the technical part.

reading between the lines I don’t think Ford will actually be involved in making engines-that remains RBPT, with “technical and R&D assistance” from Ford, plus the obvious marketing ties.

The reason I ask is Jim Farley was pretty annoyed when all the Horner allegations started. I’m sure they have some form of morality clause to get out of this partnership, which would further weaken then team

Agreed, or could be just drama to show that Ford cares about what is happening, as they were accused of the other way round, last time they were involved in F1.

Are we witnessing Red Bull slowly losing their domination ?

Today was very much "touch and go" for Max, IMO.

Maybe, for sure we are witnessing both Mclaren and Ferrari closing the gap with them.

Recently, McLaren is the team that has made the most progress, IMO.

They have totally eclipsed Mercedes so far this season.

Absolutely outstanding when you realize where they were last year in Bahreïn.
I never witnessed such turnaround in Formula One to be honest.

Yes, they also don't make much noise, and avoid bombastic predictions. That I appreciate most of all.

    A Mercedes-esque explanation yes??

Verstappen: Red Bull's been found out now car advantage is gone

Verstappen labelled it a “fundamental problem” that “can’t be fixed in weeks”. But can it be fixed during this season?

“Well first of all we need to understand what it is and we don’t,” Verstappen said when asked that question by The Race.

“We’ll work hard to try to find the problem and try to get rid of it but I don’t know if we can do that this year or we’ll have to wait for next year.

“If we knew we would have of course fixed it. Clearly we don’t.”

They shouldn't need it fixed. The car will still shine on proper dedicated circuits, especially the high speed ones.

They will be 'weak' at Canada and Singapore. Still will not really affect Max and his title unless more issues arise at other more 'normal' circuits/teams develop. So possibly a more interesting season we have.

I was thinking the same tracks. The season is starting to look more promising. Maybe at least the constructors championship will be tight and Perez's lacking performances will finally matter.

The thought of any actual in garage competition for Max is dead.

Perez closing on Red Bull F1 contract extension
Sergio Perez is closing in on a contract extension with Red Bull despite another troubled Formula 1 weekend at the Monaco Grand Prix.
    Jonathan Noble May 27, 2024, 12:41 PM

The Mexican driver struggled for pace through the Monte Carlo event, qualifying down in 18th before moving up two places thanks to the exclusion of the Haas cars.

But his race ended on lap one with a high-speed accident after he clashed with Kevin Magnussen and was pitched at full speed into the barriers on the climb up from Ste Devote.

The failure to score points in Monaco, off the back of a troubled run to eighth at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, had prompted some to question whether or not Red Bull should look elsewhere for a team-mate to Max Verstappen next year.

However, sources with good knowledge of the situation insist that the squad believes that Perez is the best candidate available right now that can work alongside the world champion.

With Red Bull not believed to be considering promoting Yuki Tsunoda from RB, and with it understood to have told Carlos Sainz that he is not a candidate, all the indications are that the team is set on keeping Perez on board.

For although there are times when he is unable to match Verstappen’s pace, he does make an important contribution on those weekends when he can extract his best from the car. Equally he does not cause political issues within the squad and he ensures a comfortable working environment for his team-mate.

Reflecting on another difficult weekend for Perez in Monaco, Horner said the priority was about helping the Mexican improve.

“This weekend's been pretty brutal for him,” he said.

“Obviously we need to make sure that we have got both cars up there scoring points, because we cannot dismiss the threat of Ferrari and McLaren in both championships.

“[But] Checo's first six races, he was very strong, qualifying on the front row and finishing second and third and scoring very well. We just need to get back into that position of confidence and not to see a dip.”

Asked if Perez’s recent difficulties changed the timing of a decision for next year, Horner said: “Not really. I think that it's more our timing. [We] will make a decision in the fullness of time.”

While it is unclear when Red Bull could announce a new deal, its motorsport advisor Helmut Marko has suggested having everything in place internally by the Spanish GP.

“I think by Barcelona we should have a clear picture,” he told Autosport. “I would say we should have a clear idea ourselves by then.”

Asked directly if Perez was in pole position for the seat, Marko said: “He is in a good position. I wouldn’t say pole-position, but he is in a good position.”

Confirmation about Perez’s future would have implications on the wider driver market, as it would make clear to Sainz that there was no point him holding out any longer for a potential seat at Red Bull.

Checo not fairing well in after race ratings lol

Saw Magnussen in his mirrors, and did nothing about it. Laid blame at the Dane's door, but had space on the outside to react rather than assume Magnussen would back out – so put himself in that position. Struggled with Red Bull balance all weekend, hence Q1 exit, and comprehensively outclassed by Verstappen.

Yes, Perez made, in a fraction of a second, a costly judgement error at Monaco; who has never done one?
As repeating all the time that he is "comprehensively outclassed by Verstappen", that's funny.
All Max's team mates have been "comprehensively outclassed" so far, as well as the rest of the field !!!

You also wrote on another thread that Ricciardo is better than Perez; that's bonkers if you ask me.

From what we've seen I think that Piastri would make an ideal teammate for Max.

Bonkers like Perez crashing and noticing others and forcing things, no race-craft and in general looking like the average driver he has always been. Checo is beyond his sell by date LOL.

They could have Sainz but choose to employ what is basically the driver just ahead of Stroll in technique and capability. The last 2 races should basically get you fired not re-hired. But Horner and Marko are cowards. They should have given Hulk a good look. A much better operational thinker than Checo will ever be.

Yes, Perez has bad days, I agree. He isn't the only one.
But saying Ricciardo would be a better choice at Red Bull, come on !!! Ricci can't handle Tsunoda !!!
@DF1, you have changed over the years; you used to be moderate in your judgement, but not anymore ...

Helmut Marko has revealed Sergio Perez’s Monaco Grand Prix crash cost Red Bull “two to three million”, and that’s not taking any potential lost points into account.

From 18th on the grid at Monaco, the probability of points is very low.

From what I saw, the monocoque is toast.
