This thread is like getting a PhD in Ferrari build and documentation history. There has been amazing insights provided by many members of the forum. This is a great wealth of knowledge for all of us. Thank you

Rick I do have a question that struck me as odd in the response to Marcel's questions. You noted your partner Terry Price had previously owned the car, if I understood correctly, and he answered the potential buyers questions. I respectfully ask, being a owner/broker/dealer would he not have explored this issue during his time in purchasing and then selling the car?

Again I may have misunderstood his role and your response.

Typical misunderstanding that usually provokes planes crashes ,, pilot assume something and takes decision on this wrong basis...if this exchange would have happened prior to the auction, everything would have been clear and square.

Still some buyers would have thought that the explanation is too complicated and better to stick to a car that either has only one engine number on build sheet ,,or no build sheet available...as once dealer GF told me,,,if you have to explain,,you have a problem. Silly in my eyes, but how the market reacts those days.

However what strikes me in this case, is that apparently knowing there might be a discrepancy none or few of the interested buyer seem to have contacted MM, nor did the auction expert,,and all preferred to stick to the point that either Classiche is correct or MM is correct.

Well turns out that both are correct,,,but they don't speak of the same thing...just a lesson for the future, for buyers, and for experts to remember.

The owner is a very nice fellow but the interviewer is a twit. Prototype please. And yes it's a V12 not a V8.

First owner John Cuccio(friend of LCM) ordered with some special features(list) including an ultra short rear axle ratio(4.56). Still owned by DW?

Thanks MM, interesting to note. It is possible that the light baby blue car my dad brought home that day from LCM was a 'test driver' and not 10245 (I was only 8 yo!). Before this one, he also brought home a dark blue short nose for a few days. Anyway he ended up with 10245. The pict for the 'for sale ad' was taken in the Lightning dry stall area at Cedar Point Yacht Club in Westport, CT. Regarding the Car and Driver issue story, John Fitch was doing the driving for the tests. My father was upset because A) the Firestone tires they were required to use (maybe they were part sponsors?) were absolute S**T compared to the Michelin XWX, and B) he wasn't taking the car to 8,000! Mr. Fitch was undoubtably being responsible as he should, but after a conversation with my dad about the RPMs, it was no contest between the Ferrari and the other cars. It was a good deal quicker! I miss those days a lot. Cheers, AT

They don't report the results of sealed bid auctions.

And if that “somebody” was to share/publish such privileged information, do you think the indiscretion would earn them sympathy from those preferring to keep it private ?

These things eventually become known. The auction house published a range so there’s at least a basis for speculation. We know of a possible anomaly based on post #109.

We also know (some) auction houses like to publish results (for general marketing reasons) which may or may not reflect real transactions, but rather some imaginary high bid by the infamous "chandelier" or "the gentleman in the back of the room", etc.

Kare. all languages are peculiar...Italian, IS NOT one that you can speak "without really knowing much about it".
If you have any other languages that are as you say, pray tell.

Just remember the famous story of Americans ordering a Pepperoni Pizza, and of course getting a " Peperoni" (minus one 'P")
Pepperoni pizza simply does not exist in Italy. Pepperoni, is a sausage type in the USA, and only in the USA.
When Americans order Pepperoni, it is a soft double T, thus sound to an Italian ear as Peperoni (sweet peppers).

Pedantically, Mortadella, is Bologna, pronounced Baloney in the USA. Crazy, no?

So, when you get to: in sede, it means that specific location. Whereas, in sede di, it can mean in lieu of, but not necessarily so.
Thus, in sede di, it can mean that an engine was replaced in lieu of another.
It all is very relative to usage and setting and implications of an action.

    Sede,
originates from sedere, aka sitting down, and also buttocks, sedia is a chair so,
you can feasibly state: Il mio sedere, e' in sede su una sedia. : My derrière, is in site on a chair.

You can never say Il mio sedere e' in sede DI una sedia, as it would entail that your buttocks are in lieu of the chair.

Easy, when you speak the language, specially when you get into 'dialectics' particular to Italian Regions.

    A Swiss, French,
or any other citizen of any country, unless extremely well versed in Italian,
will always have trouble with it. You have to have been born there.
No substitutions, unless a scholar, and not only on Ferrari.

    Great thread!
    Regards, Alberto
