The more of these threads I read, the more nervous I become regarding the delivery of my GTB and GTS units. I was hopeful they'd have this worked out by now.

Hopefully they have and it’s an easy fix. Haven’t heard anything yet so I’m anxiously waiting. Will update everyone when I hear.

Called service to get an update. The DC to DC connection had melted. They have opened a case with Ferrari and the master tech is working with them. They have to first diagnose the car to find out why the connection melted. After they figure out the source of the problem they will put together a timeline of what it will take to fix the problem and replace the connection. I asked if it was ever at risk of catching fire and they said it was not in the high voltage side so probably no. They will hopefully have a better idea early next week. Not very reassuring news at this time.

Hope it gets sorted out to your satisfaction without too much delay. They should report such failures directly to the factory so that appropriate measures could be taken.

It does go to the factory and That is the “case” they opened. It goes to Ferrari NA in New Jersey and the Ferrari NA team works directly with Italy and the technicians over there.

I know when I had issues with my McLaren there was always delays due to the time zones, as they had to send info to the UK and wait for a response the following day. Ferrari said since they are working the Ferrari NA it eliminates some of that delay. (We will see how true that is).

The good news is, they found the issue relatively quickly though. Hopefully the cause was just a freak short and you'll be back on your way relatively quick. Best of luck.

My hybrid system collapsed because 3 of the 4 tanks for the liquids for the electric engine were empty. No leak, only the universe knows why ...
This fixed, the car refused to go in fully electric mode, apparently a problem with the syncronisation between the electric and the thermic engine.
After 10.000 km the oil for the clutch of the electric engine has to be changed, apparently I am driving to much ....

Major fail. You are scaring me--my yet to be delivered 296 will be no less than 300 miles from a dealer when it craps out.

Not good but I am not surprised. The first iteration of a complex model is rarely without challenges. We are paying $400k+ and used as testers.

I wonder if it is a similar to Pie Gre mentioned above in that the DC converted failed/ melted as it overheated due to lack of coolant to it (due to leak in tank?) Maybe ask Ferrari if this is a common issue on these cars or just one-off.

I brought up these hybrid related issues to my SA more than once and he always assures me that it hasn't been his experience and these incidents are not representative of the general status of these cars. "Just keep it plugged in" he says.

Of course he's making a sale so may be biased, but I tend to believe him. The regional FNA rep I spoke with did however confirm some early production units of the 296/sf90 did have issues and everyone in position to do something knows about them. Unless the entire platform is incorrectly designed, engineered and produced, sporadic failures are to be expected. IMO.

FWIW, there are reports of more than a few brand new GT3 P cars needing engine replacements at around 1000 miles on the odo as if programmed from the factory to self destruct. And that's "German" engineering right there. Something having to do with metal shavings in the motor. No hybrid tech in sight and Porsche isn't a newbie to ICE. So....

After that post I asked and they said it had nothing to do with that and they have never heard of that issue. They are still diagnosing to find why it melted.

Think my service guy is thinking that exact thing. He did stress to me that “we will call you once we know something”:p

Wonder if I’m pushing it if I ask for visitation rights every week, just to stop by and say hello to it? :)

There is a fine line between trying to help and being a hinderance. I typically end up crossing it several times...

Well you don’t want the little car to feel abandoned, do you? That seems reasonable to me! :)

Aside from the electrical , what gives me concern are the crappy entertainment controls. In these times this is too easy but Ferrari can't figure it out. Not having a center touchscreen that is easily accessible to the driver is a big miss. Same for the Purosangue, I may end up canceling both orders. These are cars meant to be used regularly so the UI/UX has to be good and they are not.

I disagree. Not talking about the purosangue, but the 296 is a supercar. The last item of concern is a UI. Neither the 458, 488 or f8 had a center touchscreen and had crappy displays and UI and no one was event remotely concerned about that.

The UI on Mclaren is crappy. Sure it has it a center touchscreen but is not user friendly and does not have any controls on the steering wheel. Lamborghini is a little better coming from Audi but nothing to write home about.

I believe the focus of these cars is the best performance possible with the ability to live with some creature comforts. When they start adding blind spot assist, adding more sound insulation everyone throws a fit as it add weight and no one wants Nannies on their supercar.

Again, this reply is for the 296. The Purosangue is a different animal and topic. No offense (and I say half joking) but if you are on the fence of cancelling I am sure there are plenty of customers on the waiting list that would love to get your allocation. That is the great thing about these purchases, they are not necessities and if it’s not for you, no reason to spend 500k.

(for me, the UI is of no concern for the 296. I wouldn’t be upset if it didn’t have a radio or navigation system. Just give me AC, performance and looks and that is all I need. Now for my daily cars I 100% agree with you but I think the typical buyer is not going to daily a 296)

It's a regular car with a lot of power that costs over 400k, the basics need to be right.

In this case, it is lacking. Just trying to change a radio station is a chore. How much more effort would it take to do a better job? Let's not forget how much this car weighs so what's another 2 lbs?

If you want rudimentary then you don't buy a hybrid in 2024 so your argument doesn't hold water. There are so many other cars that fill this void without this price tag and overly complicated systems.

I'd like to add that I once thought the same way but when you realize these are street cars, not race cars you'll appreciate the amenities need to be there.

The 296 is furthest thing from a “regular” car. This isn’t a Prius type hybrid either. This is the next generation of supercars and the future of what’s to come. I personally want the latest and greatest/cutting edge when it comes to these types of car.

We already know McLarens next super car is hybrid, so is Lamborghini. Ferrari just got out ahead with the SF90 and 296. The funny thing is they are not missing out on a single sale, so clearly your view is in the minority.

I find the statement funny that changing radio stations is a chore. It is a simple as can be and much easier than in my Mclaren. While my hands are on the steering wheel, I tap the home button with my right thumb to wake up the system and use my left index finger to scroll thru the radio stations on the back side of the steering wheel. I can’t imagine an easier system than that. My eyes never have to leave the road and my hands never have to leave the steering wheel. I could close my eyes and change the radio stations.

Last thing I want with this type of car is amenities. If I want massaging seats, self driving, air suspension, nice UI or sound recognition I’ll reach for the keys to a MB, Audi or Porsche. If I want an exhilarating ride that brings as smile to my face just from the looks and drive, I’ll grab Ferrari or Mclaren keys.
