Hi all, I've currently got an issue with a 348 I've just imported and looking for some help please. Behaviour Locking the doors with the remote or the centre console buttons does not work, neither door will lock. If I am inside the car, I can manually push the locks down on each side. The passenger (RHS) door will lock and unlock with the key, and this does not influence the driver (LHS) door. The driver door (LHS) will turn a half turn each way with no resistance, and will not lock or unlock. Two issues to be addressed Central locking doesn't work with the remote or console buttons. Drivers (LHS) door can't be locked/unlocked with the key. I've done some reading and for the door, it seems like I need to try track down a lock kit or use the Hill Engineering door lock pin? Would that match these symptoms? Thank you!
First problem... the remote is aftermarket. We don't know how it is wired into the car. By the sounds of it, you have several issues. So possibly an issue with the driver's side locking mechanism or motor actuator. So you have an issue with the linkages between the keylock and the locking mechanism. I believe these are known to break or become detached. So something in this chain of pieces: Image Unavailable, Please Login Hill Engineering UK make an aftermarket metal "door lock pin" to replace the plastic Ferrari part which sometimes breaks https://www.hillengineering.co.uk/coachwork-items/doors-windows-related/348-355-door-lock-pin With the linkages connected, the lock mechanism and the (electrically operated) lock actuator should move mechanically. At a certain point of movement, a microswitch inside the actuator will be triggered and the Door ECU should assist the locking of the driver's door and also command the passenger's door to lock (electrically). So no sounds of electrics operating on either door? This may be a hard nut to crack, especially not knowing how the fob is tied into the system. I would at least check the fuse* in the passenger footwell, but it's not going to solve all your issues. I have a wiring diagram, but that probably won't help at this point. *fuse #4 From where to where did you import the car?
As above, Id start by ensuring the mechanical linkages are all connected and work. (one of mine was in pieces in the bottom of the door and the other the plastic bit had broken.) Once you get the mechanics sorted Id then move to the electrics. As above remote central locking is aftermarket; possibly easier to just get rid of it. You may find the other fault along the way.
Thank you both for the insights, greatly appreciate it. Agree that it sounds like the door lock pin, I'll order a pair of those. Doesn't hurt to have a spare for when the passenger door inevitably fails! Interesting about the remote, it looked aftermarket but it's great to be certain now thank you. I'll take a look at fuse #4. Fingers crossed! This one came from Japan and has just landed here in Australia. Very excited as it's my first Ferrari! I'm going through the motions of preparing it for registration and will be looking to have the major service completed shortly as well.
I think so, there is a thread on here about that route somewhere. I took the door cards off as I was doing some other bits.
Is it LHD? Japan is RHD like Australia, but for some reason, a lot of Japanese Ferrari's are LHD. Welcome to Ferrari ownership (and FChat)! Don't forget to fill out your profile so we don't have to ask dumb questions GT? GTB? Spider? LHD? RHD? 2.5 Motronic? 2.7 Motronic? RHD Ferrari's often have the relay panel installed upside down and have other components in different places.
It is indeed LHD. A friend who lives over there said there’s a few reasons it’s quite common to see, even beyond exotics. A lot of BMWs and Mercedes are LHD as well. His understanding was that there’s a perception of it being ‘more authentic’ and delivered as intended by the manufacturer, with dealers simply offering the option to purchase European cars in either RHD or LHD format. This may or may not be correct, but it’s what he’s heard! Thanks for the tips on the profile too, I’ll update!
Have you checked the fuse for the central locking or does it work to ulock the doors? A very common issue is for the "rim" of the "top hat" component to break which stops the lock working properly. Hills engineering do a (expensive) replacement which I fitted to mine. Ferrari do a kit for an obscene price which I had to buy just to get the return spring. Removing the outer grill will give some access but TBH I think it will be difficult - your much better off removing the inner door card and panel - quite a bit of work but at the time I was refurbishing the door innards. I ended up doing both doors and got totally carried away and stripped the doors down completely. Worth it though as everything worked perfectly afterwards Image Unavailable, Please Login Pic of LHS door for reference Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks for the picture Jeff, incredibly helpful for visualising the process as well. Fingers crossed the springs are still attached or sitting at the bottom of the door. Sounds like a nightmare to source replacements! I'll check over the fuses and order the Hill replacement pins. Sounds like the best long term fix for this.
