    I think the Ferrari V-12s actually sounded better at somewhat lower RPMs, as during the flat-12 era of the 1970s.

    The 512(S & M versions) had an ear shattering exhaust note. S & M indeed!

    I can vouch for that !
    The pitlane at the Shell Historics racing was epic.

    I think that it would be possible to commemorate the high point of a team's success, but a team like Aston would commemorate Jordan, Force India? Haas has nothing to commemorate. JPS Lotus(doesn't exist) and Marlboro Mclaren had tobacco sponsorship. Basically you would have Ferrari in red, Renault in yellow or blue and yellow,
    Mclaren in papaya and Mercedes and RBR in current livery(more or less).

    Notice that the highest part of the car is right at the knee !! {not including velocity stacks.}

    A properly sized car.

    It's at Spa, but it's not the 1967 winner, so it's probably the 1966 Climax-powered car, but it's hard to see the engine area.

    You're right that Aston Martin could do the car in Jordan colors (Bitten & Hisses, anyone?), while Mercedes could actually do Tyrrell (yes, they can trace their origins that far back) and Red Bull could do Stewart or Jaguar. McLaren could do full papaya, Williams could do either Canon or Saudia colors, RB could do Minardi.

    I don't understand why people are so hung up about this livery stuff. It doesn't matter to me.
    F1 is about racing, not a fashion show; all I want are cars that are easily identifiable.

    I also miss the days when you could identify a car by its simple livery and a driver by his distinct helmet (which he wore throughout his F1 career and was his trademark).

    I don’t think anybody’s “hung up.” Some of the old livery is superior to what they do now. Why not change it up every so often? I was very glad to see McLaren go back to papaya, even if it is metallic. Frankly it interests me a little bit more than some minute, arcane “upgrade” of the most obscure piece of aerodynamica. Anything that makes these buses less ugly is ok with me.

    I get confused when some teams change their livery during the season.
    Also, I have to admit that I am not really interested in artistic effects and esthetics in general.
    So for me, the simpler it is, the better.
