No, those are correct for a GTB -- the GTS has the "windproof" closable purse bags.

I thought that all 308's up to the FI's were closed. I better do some more research before I post .

 

Where do '78-'79 308 euro cars end up when they have minimal (zero?) chance of meeting emission requirements as originally equipped (no A.I.R. pumps, no cats, 4 thirsty Webers) in an ever-growing number of states? It seems like almost any post-1975 car needs an owner with an LLC in Montana these days. Recent sales and auction results are not very encouraging and may just reflect these arbitrary obstacles (why 1975 and not, say a rolling 25-yr baseline with limited annual mileage?) thrown up by the DMV folks in your home state of CA, CO and the rest of the blue parts of the country.

 

Those are added US required side marker lights, as the Euros would not have had them.

Texas is exempted from smog at 20 or 25 years, and California would want to crush it....

 

Euro cars stayed NON CAT much longer than the US, !980 at least) and plus Dry Sump, therefore more desirable.

I would think Show and Display exemption would keep the Feds off your azz.

 

New York state has at 25 years of age car only has to pass safety Inspection ie: headlights ,turn signals and brakes so anything can come in.

 

At this point I think it's a shrug your shoulders thing. They look at my non vented gas cap, drive it around the block to check the brakes and LogIn to the State to PASS..I do maintain the NON CAT label in the door jam, but there's a year specific Engine Data plate in the rear hatch that confirms the Compliance Info.

My air injector pumps (and nozzles) have been gone for years. This car never had them...will be a single distributer as well.

 

How do you explain this Euro? Also, note that Euro turn signals are white/orange.

Annual smog for all later than 74? I think. Not only that but the cars have to pass standards more strict than what was required of them when newThey did pass a rolling 25 year law but reversed it just a year or two later. It will never get better. Its pretty obvious they just want old cars off the road period.

Nice rare car, great candidate for a restore. Needs the proper rear bumper, not the US rear one. And Big Tex is correct, that’s US square marker.

 

The Euro cars had the small, round side repeater on the front fender/wing, but no rear side marker. Euro cars that were brought to the US in period would at least have had rectangular US rear side markers added for compliance, and quite possibly have the small, round front side repeaters replaced with larger rectangular ones.

 

Agree with you regarding the side marker lights. I've never seen them placed below the body accent line in that fashion. Someone definitely wanted that look as it meant having to do metal work to close the holes on the front fenders that once housed the small, round Euro side repeaters.

 

True "Euro" 308s and 328s never had cats, 'till the end of the production in 1989.
(sole exception being the swiss-market model of the 328, also sold in Sweden, which started to get cat in 1987)

Nice car. Needs some things but has a lot that usually go missing. Single exhaust is there. The bumpers look original. The shallow front spoiler is typical. The cover over the S-127 dizzy often goes missing. The mirrors are wrong (and ugly), the side markers, as mentioned, are plain bizarre. Needs its Brico lighter. Has had the instrument panel drilled for a seat belt light. Other stuff looks okay. Good price for a dry sump. I’m in way over double that for my steel one. This looks like a great potential car.

 

Awesome example. Seems like the perfect car for BaT. For whatever reason Euro cars don’t seem to do as amazing as I think they should. They are the ultimate 308 but apparently not.

As I write this I’m in Korea and will be here and Japan for another couple weeks. Koreans are interesting in that they seem to have zero interest in vintage Ferrari, there’s pretty much none here. I was chatting with the local Ferrari guys here at the dealer and they tell me almost all clients in Korea who can buy a new or vintage Ferrari are just not interested in anything vintage, they just see it as an old car. Japan is a very different animal though, most of them really get it.

 

I was just in Japan, and I can confirm; I've seen more Enzo-era cars on the road in the Tokyo area than any other place I've been.

As for Euros, I think it depends on how much federalizing they've gone through; the ones that retain their original bumpers, blinkers, mirrors, etc. are more desirable than those that got the full Uncle Sam treatment.

 

The missing/altered Fed stuff is findable, it’s your dry sump motor and gearing that matter.

 

Pretty sure you don't need smog now in the PNW (except certain counties)

 

It's every other year, and every car 1976 or later. It's punitive and completely pointless. I'll say no more as to avoid P&R. Mine is due this month and I've always gotten it to pass over the 12+ years I've owned it. But I'm sick of the rigamarole, and so is my mechanic...

 

Anti gasoline car zealots in Sacramento. Some seem to think it will pass. Californias politics are set in stone. Its why I left. Should have done it 20 years earlier.
