I'm getting reports that MercedesAMGF1 have called their pursuit in signing Newey.
[AMuS] Michael Schmidt says that apparently Ferrari isn't interested anymore. Williams and McLaren contacted Newey. Newey talked with Mercedes and also Aston Martin.
The three British teams could more easily give him equity than MBz. If I were betting I’d bet on AM. Stroll must be fed up with the design and technical side, and ready to pay up.
Are Aston building their own wind tunnel? I believe they are using the Mercedes one at the moment and are having the same correlation problems as Mercedes - they are adding bits to the car that looks great in the tunnel, but are getting different results on the track. if they are going to get this fixed then I can imagine Newey being tempted. Although if it were me I'd want them to at least double whatever any other team is offering as the idea of building a car for Stroll jnr wouldn't really appeal.
Well the triumvirate Cardile-Tondi-Gualterri working together with the super consultant Newey will be something I would love to see..
It’s being reported at www.autosport.com that he’s being pursued by AM. I don’t think it is his initiative, but Stroll’s, who’s known to be disgusted with the technical operation.
I'm not sure about that. I guess everyone has a price, but he's just getting it done with Ferrari. Who would leave on the upswing?
I think he'll wind up at Aston Martin. I think he really wants to stay in Britain, and he's said he'd like to work with Fernando, even if it's only for a couple of years. And I think Stroll is ready to throw big bucks at him.
Why should I be desperate? I have no dog in that fight. Straightaway, you jump the gun ! Unlike you I have no prejudice, and I really don't care where Newey goes. But if Newey wants to stay in UK for family reason, which has been mentioned several times here, the choice is only between Mercedes, McLaren, Aston Martin and Williams, since he left Red Bull. I haven't heard Toto Wolff asking for Newey, and at McLaren they seem to do a good job on their own. Aston Martin has spent lots of money in installations, and beefing up their technical team; that's why I wrote it makes sense for him to go there. I doubt Williams would be after him, but one never knows. Finally, if Newey signs for Ferrari, that would be fine with me too... PS. Maybe Adrian Newey waits for a call from Michael Andretti .
Rumor. It states it in the article. This rumor has been going on for months. Nothing concrete or official from Ferrari or Newey.
While I would love to see Newey help make the AMR better and perhaps Alonso could get some wins, I think you are right. It seems Stroll would be a very difficult guy to deal with. Borderline dictator. Meanwhile Newey is a reasonably quiet, just leave me alone to my genius kind of guy. Plus imagine Daddy Stroll telling Newey how to design a car specifically to help his son even though Alonso is fully capable of driving an on the edge car that is much faster.
Yes, very interesting. To what extent their sources are completely accurate is unknown but it sure does seem that they have inside details with names and places cited. Will be interesting to see if this plays out as reported. Other interesting articles on Susie Wolf wanting to be the next FIA president and the Andretti/Maffei situation. Even the editor's comments in the first couple of pages accusing Maffei of having acquired an (unwarranted) Master of the Universe complex.
