I've passed on opportunities to drive a 296 because, in the back of my mind, I knew I would feel the urge to part with my F8 if I did. Well, the 296 is surprisingly good, and I've decided it's time to embrace the future. I'm trading my F8 for a 296.

This artist rendering is obviously quite exaggerated, but (in my opinion) these cars generally look better slightly lower and with the wheels flush with the fenders.

I lowered my F8 on 20/21-inch wheels using Novitec springs. It looked great, but on spirited drives, the car would sometimes bottom out. I plan to do a better job of balancing both looks and usability. I went too low on my F8. Lesson learned.

I've read several threads about bad experiences with Novitec springs on 296s and decided to avoid that path and stay OEM. I want a conservative drop (~10mm) and will add some spaces (probably 17mm front and back). The 296 has less wheel gap than the F8, so 10mm is likely all I need. I'll stick with the stock 20-inch wheels.

The car in this post looks great. https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/posts/149500037/

Has anyone else had their 296 lowered on the stock suspension and wheels and added spacers? Would you mind sharing your experience and photos? Has performance been impacted? Thanks in advance.

  2. I would not do it on stock suspension.

Lowering on stock suspension is probably possible since I guess there is some operating margin (and cars may not not have the same height from factory for different markets); better to double check though.
Spacers are a different matter; they may improve the look but are likely to disturb the intended geometry (and they add non suspended weight...)

I always use novitec springs to lower all my Ferrari's and have never had any issues. I also do aftermarket wheels because the wheels look better with the right offset. Haven't done on 296, but did on my F8 coupe and spider and sf90 spider. Just my .02

This is my F8 on Novitec springs. I also had it too low originally and raised it 10mm to prevent it from bottoming out. I will be using Novitec on my incoming 296.

I should clarify further, I initially lowered my F8 on the stock springs.

I should have stopped at this point, but I wanted it to be a little lower (especially in the rear). I installed Novitec springs and added custom wheels because I didn't like having to use spacers.

This time, I want a conservative drop (~10mm) on OEM wheels.

The following threads/posts caused me some concern regarding Novitec (rebranded KW) springs for the 296

Perhaps @488gtbmasergt can chime in since he's had some recent experience with this issue.

Agree. Why would you use spacers with a less than 1/2 inch drop and OEM springs. Just drop it the same front and back to maintain the factory rake and be done with it. If you insist on spacers 10s are plenty

I quickly read back what I wrote in my previous posts.
I stand by every experiences I reported on Novitec and Tag.
Neither of them took any responsibility for the bad fit of their products on my 296. Neither did they want to seriously hear my complaints. Forget about returning anything either.
I am not angry or writing any of this to get back at them. I moved on.
If the look of your car is what you are going for, Novitec (with Vossen and KW products) are fine.
I am super happy with the cutom Vossen wheels I ordered. Still, it is an objective fact that the dimensions I got for them (front and rear) from Tag (from Novitec) are not proper. They fit to look nice but not functional as OEM ones. Marketing pictures from Novitec are real and get the car to look like great artist drawings. No wheel arch gaps, tires further outward. Looking aggressive like Porsche (GT3s) or BMW (M series). But you better not drive the car like you stole it. That is my unfortunate experience. You will damage your car. Period. Not talking about ride quality which is subjective.
Now, about the springs, I will not rewrite what I already wrote. I said that I would sell them to anyone wanting them on this forum. I will not do that. I would feel guilty. I asked my F dealer to throw them out. Done with those.
I have now custom made springs that I am not able to recommend as I am not at liberty to do so. Let's just say that they come from another reputable brand and that the correct rate was carefully and knowledgeably chosen front and rear.
I was able to test them over two days on the track. Lots of sessions at full speed, braking, cornering, etc. The car behaves incredible. Amazing difference (to me at least) especially during intense breaking and cornering.
And I still feel the car being pretty confortable under normal use. I drive the car in Qualy mode and CT off nearly all the time but with bumpy mode on for my daily (dry) driving. My car has about 5000 miles now. At least half of those on the new setup.
Pretty sure I already posted this pix but this is how it looks now. Despite not being lowered a lot, it looks better (to me) and I am able to drive around daily over any speed bumps.

    Sure.
I got a lot from reading this forum.
Happy to share and contribute if I can...

I know my car does not have a very original colour but I never got so many people taking picture of a previous car of mine. I think the car looks "special" being satin black, slightly lowered and on those staggered gunmetal wheels...

I love the look of your car. The Matte finish looks spectacular and I was toying with matte on red or black.

The ride height looks great too and I have seen BMWs dropped too far that rolling fenders was needed, so it really has to be practical.

I'm gonna need the name of the company that did the springs lol. I do track my car and drive aggressively most of the time so driving dynamics matter more than looks for me. That being said the car does feel a bit on the soft side. The AF I test drove felt perfect driving fast but was a bit too harsh on less than ideal roads.

Pm me. I will ask my mechanic. If he is ok to release his provider I will tell you. Spring rates were also a big issue and choice was made by him from his extensive experience in tracking many road F cars as well as Challenge ones...

I had a DM exchange with someone who has their 296 slightly lowered on the stock suspension, and the conversation answered my questions and allayed my concerns. I also had a chat with the dealership, and they have no problem doing it before I take delivery (like they did for my F8 before I had it lowered again on Novitecs).

Thanks to all for the feedback.

The service rep said that they hadn't done a height adjustment on a 296 yet but that it's possible to lower the height a little bit. They wouldn't commit to 10mm, but I'm OK with that. The 296 doesn't sit nearly as high as my F8 did from the factory.

My 296 should be here in about a month. It’s on the ship somewhere. Ferrari won’t give you the name of the ship. My GT3 RS is 4 days away from the San Diego port, and I was able to track it every step of the way. RoadRonin, we’ve had the exact same experience with our F8’s. I lowered my 488 on stock springs and loved it. I still plan to ask the dealer to lower the 296 on factory springs. We’ll see. BTW, my 296 is Giallo as well.

Congratulations on your GT3RS and 296! I've never driven a GT3RS, but I can attest to the 296 being an incredible machine. I'm looking forward to seeing photos.
