    People never ask me.
Because I never take it out.
    One less problem ;)

Honestly I dont care and I'll tell them they are car people.
When I first got it someone asked then immediately backed it up with "but I bet you got a good deal on it".
I said no I probably paid over market because this was the exact one I was hunting for.

When I was going to cars and coffee, my usual response to the "how much did you pay?" was "more than some, but not as much as others". Depending on the person involved I might offer a range. If they were kind of douchy, that was the end of it.

My go-to response has always been: about as much as a loaded F150. It’s true, and it’s relatable without being specific. As a kid I was taught not to ask questions like that, so even if it’s asked in earnest it still puts me off a little.

Never had anybody ask what I do.

for vintage cars this is a moot point.
but i do get asked...and i usually just tell them what they are insured for.

I've only had mine for a few months and been asked several times already. I've always told them what I paid and they've been surprised "Is that all?" because their expectations seem to be a six figure number. I've never then been asked what I do.

I have never had anyone ask me how much.

Driving the Dino, I’ve had a number of people saying “nice VW”, “nice kit car”, things along that line.

    Nothing, I stole it.

Yes, I do get funny looks, but end of conversation...and no calls to the CHP either.

"Nice car, what do you do for a living?" I lose money in the stock market!
"NIce car, how much did you pay for it?" Less than what I lose in the stock market!

    Too cheeky?! ;)

In my area, I see the question of how much my cars cost as very judgemental.

It's a very affluent area, but also tends to skew very "outdoorsy-adventurey". So it's not that anyone asking the question doesn't have the money, it's just they choose to spend it on things other than cars. Which is fine by me - their money, their choice.

But I'm sorely tempted to respond with: "Less than the 3 week guided climbing trip to Nepal you just got back from!".

Don't you just love it when others project their value systems and notions unto others? I suppose it makes them feel more validated and secure in their own being. The more they judge, the less secure they are.

If you own a Ferrari, and that question is going to bother you, then sell it and buy a Buick. You won't get those question driving a Buick.

I think that is a bit blown out of proportion.....

Ferraris are a pain in the ass to own, but I wouldn't trade it for the world. It's just kind of lame how when people approach me when I have the car, they don't want to talk cars, they want to talk about my money or whatever some dickless youtuber did with one. I had a lot better conversations with strangers with my other cars over the years.

There is an expression “how the other half live”. People are fascinated how the other half live and curious as to how much things cost. There is a reason they publish the Forbes list or how much athletes makes or how much houses sell for. Genuine curiosity and human nature to want to know.

I’d venture to guess that if someone lives in a fancy neighborhood and a house sells down the street, the first question they ask is “how much”. I don’t see anything wrong with it. It would be wrong if someone said asks how much do you make a year, but they are just asking how much a car costs.

Just my .02 and I even volunteered that costs. lol.

I suppose you think that owning a Ferrari is something that 99% of the public do, and therefore their question about cost, what you do for a living etc. comes as a shock to you. Wake up, you own a Ferrari, and everything that comes with ownership of one, including curious minds. Intruding on your personal info is one thing, but asking what it cost to own or maintain one is another.

I have news for you; it is actually 99% of the public that do not/cannot own a Ferrari, and that's the reason you have these "lame" questions. So I will stick to my guns, and offer your my advice once again; if these questions bother you, get rid of your Ferrari and stick with your other cars that you had better conversations with strangers. You actually said this yourself, which reinforces my original post.

I completely agree. I've never gotten a "what is your address", or "how much money do you have in the bank" etc.....it's harmless questions from people that perhaps don't know what to ask or how to ask a Ferrari owner....and if us owners can't understand that, or deal with that, or tolerate the general public, then perhaps we don't deserve to own one.

I remember growing up (in the 70’s) and getting my Road & Track magazine. The first thing I would do is look at the pictures, followed by the 0-60 time, followed by the price.

Even though I’ve lived in Florida for 32 years, I am not into boats and have no clue about boats. When I see a huge yacht or a cigarette type boat my first question is how much? I honestly have no clue if something is a 1 million yacht or a 5 million yacht, and I’m genuinely curious (and fascinated). I’d assume when someone asks me about any of my cars that they are also curious/ fascinated and I’m happy to give them info. I’ll also share the specs with them, the gas mileage, how long it took to get and anything else about the car.

+1 I tend to assume that I'm the only Ferrari owner they've ever talked to directly, and really try to present as an ambassador for the marque in the sense of not being a pretentious ****bag, and share a bit of enthusiasm. Let their kid sit in it for a picture, etc.

I tell them what I paid, and if asked (as Todd mentioned, the Daniel Mac, "What do you do for a living!?" is now very common), I say that I'm a personal injury lawyer with my own office.

With the 296 being delivered that will be more of a sticker shock because it's more than double the F12's $207k...

r - come on man, you're listed as being in Las Vegas - isn't there a Ferrari on every corner, and a Lambo in between? :)

I'm in the middle of the cornfields and have had MANY people tell me they've never actually seen a Ferrari in real life!

    Oh... the burden... :D

You missed my point completely. I deal with it and I am respectful toward people as long as they are as well. I empathize with them completely. I have the car because I am a pureblooded gearhead, not as a status symbol. I love gearhead conversations. I hate conversations about status. It's so fake.

Still, anyone that comes up with interest I encourage to sit in the car. I want to inspire people to chase their dreams. There are virtually no exotics here, so few get that opportunity. I never did.

That said throwing out the baby with the bathwater is absolutely absurd like you keep recommending. I'm keeping this car for life and I probably have another 40 years to go.

True, we have a lot of exotics around now. Way more Lambos out on the road than Ferraris though, at least what you see driven. Also thrown off by the crazy number of rental Huracans. I intentionally chose a place with a warm enough climate to daily a Ferrari year round.
