Oh man that’s a bummer! It does look good though!
My trick Antigravity battery just shut down. Total electrical power failure while driving. Tapped the brakes heading down a hill, and lights out. Was able to reset the battery and regain power, but when I tried to crank it tripped again. I'm guessing the batter was already in a state of discharge as I hadn't put it on the charger since about January. I've only driven the car a dozen miles or so since then, with a fair amount of idling while setting the carbs and timing, so not a lot of opportunity to charge via the alternator. It spun the engine over just fine before I left the house, so was really surprised by the 'light switch" moment. Have an email into Antigravity to understand if this is abnormal operation or just how these things work.
Started installing sound-deadening material to reduce interior noise/heat, and replace the old degraded foam insulation. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Which model of their battery do you have? I've used their products in all my cars and bikes, and I did get a bad battery from them once, though their customer care was excellent.
AG-75-40-RS. An entire day has gone by with no response from their customer care, so I wouldn't call that excellent. At this point it seems unlikely I will hear from them before Monday.
I'd just call them - they answer the phone. I had one of their batteries die (largely due to my negligence) a few days shy of the five-year warranty, and instead of giving me the 20% discount the warranty called for, they gave me a new battery for free.
Nothing that's what I have done, nothing. If you didn't see the thread I posted in the "Ferrari Discussion (not model specific)" https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/scammers-reported-my-car-stolen.692816/ I did a police report 2 weeks ago. I got a call Thursday that my case had been assigned. The detective called and asked if he could come by Friday morning and look at the vin and paper work. Waited most the day, he never came by or called. I know there are more important problems they need to take care of than my car so I understand. I cannot register the car till this is resolved. I cant believe I got my dream car and all I can do is look at it sitting in the garage. I am trying to be patient. Sorry for the rant, I just needed to vent. First world problems, I really am blessed to have it.
Last year I bought some nice extra carpets (black with red border). However, over time they slid under the accelerator pedal and the idle speed was more than 2000 rpm... with quite a bit of engine noise. Now the car already has more than enough attention, so that sound is really not necessary. The extra carpets are now secured with a simple turning system through the Ori carpet and there is no more movement
Starting to put the car back together noticed there was a crack on the bumper... so fixed it up. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yesterday I installed the new oil light sending unit and took it for a 20 minute ride. It was not running bad but it was not smooth. I went home and changed the plugs. It seemed much smoother. Today was my first real drive in the car. I took it on about a 40 minute drive through some nice roads. I am blown away, it’s everything I hoped it would be. It pulled strong all the way to redline and the sound of the webers and Ansa exhaust is intoxicating! I have driven 2 other 308’s both in very ruff shape both were very slow. Because of this I was surprised how quick my 308 is. You guys know what I mean, quick for a 1978 308. It does have a euro engine and no smog equipment, I don’t know how hunch that adds. It does not matter the car is more than the sum of its parts. I am in love. The only down side is 3 gear synchro is in bad shape. When I would take it to red line it would grind going into 3th. First I thought I did not press the clutch down all the way. Second time I tried rev matching. The only thing that works is a very slow shift. I can nurse it along for now, I don’t plan on racing it. Sorry for the long post, just a little excited! Image Unavailable, Please Login View attachment 3698836 View attachment 3698836 Image Unavailable, Please Login
Nice looking car. When you say "euro engine" are you saying it was replaced by a euro spec engine, or the car was originally European spec? Side marker lights are North American spec, is why I ask. Third gear issue may just be due to a gearbox needing shift finger adjustment. My gearbox was a bit recalcitrant when purchased, but after replacing the shift rod bushings (with nylon replacements) and carefully adjusting the internal shift mechanism in the gearbox, it now shifts very well indeed. Hopefully it's not an actual synchro issue, as that's a very involved, engine out project.
I am not sure when but some time during the history of the car the motor was replaced with a European spec motor. I am still trying to track down all the history. I have most of it. One of the owners was a member here. The car is a U.S. car though. One post here says the car was part of a DEA auction that is how it ended up at FAF in Atlanta. I am not sure of that ether. I’ll have to find the thread agin. The car was originally sold in LA. I have the paper work on that. It would be great if it is just a shift rod bushing! I have a 308 GT4 maintenance manual I will have to take a look in it unless there if a how to thread somewhere on here. Thanks for the info! Image Unavailable, Please Login
After 4 weeks on the lift (mostly waiting on parts), numerous F-bombs, and many bloodied knuckles later, I finally completed: All belts, tensioner bearings (HE PT-308), tensioner springs greased, water pump, thermostat, new aluminum coolant tank (original 34yo steel tank finally sprung a leak), radiator cap, all fluids, spark plugs, coolant hoses, water pump assembly gasket and o-rings, a/c charged (again), bolts, nuts and washers where needed. Next job: the fuel system I much appreciate the expert advice and information provided on this forum.
I want to add carplay to the factory head unit. Is it possiple? Has anyone tried *********** Ferrari module? Image Unavailable, Please Login
I would fix this with an old fashioned lead acid battery available at any discount retail store and motor on reliably for years to come. This "trick" battery is a solution to a problem that didn't exist especially in something like a 308. In your case it's introduced more problems than it has solved. I wouldn't over think this.
I got bored so decided to bedazzle my tool chest. Its now worth at least 5x more. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Off into the Welsh hills at 7:00am with the roof off. You’ve got to make the most of decent weather around here ! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Replacing A/C hoses. Wasn't too bad because I have the fuel tank removed. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Me too, mid Wales, spent 2 hrs running around the local A roads. Supposed to be decent weather all week. Don't get that chance often over here!
