I just bought a 2014 458 Spider with 4000 miles a few weeks ago and from time to time it has squeaky brakes. It doesn't do it all the time, but when in slow traffic or under light braking it will squeak. Is this normal? Any ideas?

Mine don't squeak. No way would I live with squeaky brakes!

Do a search and you'll find a lot of information (arguments mainly). Some say to bed your brakes...this might help. Some say use a hose and spray away debris. Others say not to do this. LOL. Are your brake pads worn? Replacing pads and bedding brakes might help.

If I had this problem I'd try having the brakes disassembled, examined (look for any obvious problems) and then re-assemble. Worth a try.

I had that problem as well. Dealer said to hit the brakes harder and clean the surfaces.

Not much else you can do.

I belive this problem is caused by habitual light braking. A few hard stops, get the brakes hot. The problem stops. Just make sure you have nobody behind you...they can't stop that fast. ;)

This. I've driven numerous Ferraris and they all make noise until I do a few hard stops (after warming them up)

I have tried everything and the brakes constantly squeak on my 458. The only time I get a brief respite is after a good wash, then for the first 20 miles no squeak but it always returns.

Your dealer and other posters are right , you need to slam on a few times to clear the old dust from light breaking in traffic etc

    Hi everyone,
I would also like to add something to this topic or ask a question. I also have a 2013 model Italia and naturally it has carbon ceramic brakes. I know that carbon ceramic brakes usually squeak (especially at low speeds), but the other day, when I was doing a medium/hard ride and pressed the brakes at normal speeds, I think I started hearing a squealing sound from the rear brakes as well. (There was no such thing in my previous rides). Do you think this is normal and something I should get used to? Or is this something temporary that comes and goes sometimes? So should I think there is a problem with my vehicle or are there practical solutions I need to do for this type of noise? Does anyone have any experience or ideas on this subject?

    Have a nice day.

Many will say this noise is normal, but that is just because it is a common occurrence. You do not have to live with it. Some have pointed out that bedding in the brakes through a few hard stops may help the noise go away, but there is often a more common cause that people don’t realize and that is Pad vibration between the backing plate and the caliper. You can apply an anti-squeal grease that solves this problem. I do this religiously on all of my cars and I do not have squealing issues. Exception being when using race pads that will squeal when they are cold.

Here is a short video that explains how to service the brakes to avoid this noise. Obviously, this video is not done on a Ferrari, but the principles and application are the same.

Actually I bought the product and was determined to use it, but then I consulted the Ferrari authorized service and for some reason they said they did not recommend me to use it and frankly I did not use it. It usually makes noise at low speeds anyway and it does not bother me anymore.
    Thanks for asking though.
