That’s what happens when you cry that someone isn’t getting the respect they “deserve”. Strictly going by stats I have to admit Lewis is the better driver between the two when looking at the big picture. However, the current Lewis is a pale shadow of the past Lewis IMO. It’s not his fault, it’s just the natural cycle of the sport. I’d be shocked if he manages to win another WDC. Even though I can’t stand Lewis I’ll happily admit he is an incredible talent that will be difficult to topple record wise. That said I don’t think he’d last one race in the older cars/era of F1 or against a Senna, Schumacher, Clark, etc. Those guys were cut from a different cloth. Such “dangerous driving” back then.
I'd love to see guys today race a car that had nothing on the steering wheel but a kill switch or radio button, let alone a clutch pedal. And I'd REALLY love to see them race against a field where 8-10-12 cars were all capable of winning, whereas today we have, what, six? And for many years we only had three or four at most.
If I may, the "stats" that Lewis has is # of titles and # of wins in his career when compared to Max. Max has better "stats" than Lewis age-for-age and broke a multitude of records for 2023 including Ascari's 75 year record and RedBull breaking Mclarens record of 1988. So at 26yo, Max has better stats than Lewis had at 26yo and more WDC titles of the same age.
Exactly !! Hamilton had his time, and now he is well over the hill. He hasn't won anything since 2021, or even shown any spirited drive since. With his skill and experience, he can still pedal what is now an average car to points, but Russell has de facto taken over the #1 position in the team. I still question Ferrari's logic in recruiting him, but that's their problem.
Max did or are you referring to when Lewis had perhaps 3 or 4 of the most dominant cars in history and only had to beat his teammate?
"Hamilton is the GOAT... he sucks". Dudes a car driver like the rest. I you like him cool, if not cool too. We are ALL as good as our last deal. I'm not a fan, but I'll say his record shows something. If its because of a certain time and regulations... Well if he repeats it then give me a call. Seems to me now great drivers almost rotate with the regulation cycle. I'm glad it gives everyone a outlet to vent at least. How about Ferrari's chances this weekend!
Hopeful that Ferrari fortunes are on the upswing? I was skeptical of Vasseur's hiring but he seems to be doing an incredible job. Onward!
I had not seen this excerpt from a SKY interview with Jacques Villeneuve from 2018 regarding sir hamilton: “He confuses Formula 1 with Hollywood. Everything he does is staged. He portrays himself on social media like he is Jesus. The way he knelt next to his car after his problem in qualifying looked like the suffering of Christ. And what he said afterwards was the Sermon on the Mount. Then he gestured so dramatically on the podium that everyone could see who sent the sudden rain.”
Jeez, mercedes are finally decent... Hamilton should have been top 4 given his performance all weekend but his 7th today is very poor, not a reflection of his pace this weekend...maybe a podium for mercedes tommorow
You guys are really desperate when you start dragging out quotes from 6 years ago, made by none other than Jacques Villeneuve, to denigrate Hamilton.
You’re right! Let’s talk about his qualifying non performance for Canada instead! Maybe he salvaged the day by wearing another big bird fur suit?
2024 is not about the track, its about the business deals behind the scenes. Lewis is puting together his Ferrari / Newey dream team. If it works he'll get the 8th championship he desires most. A life in the sport as the world's most winning driver is not judged by a short-term dry spell (expected over life of such a long career)..but what he does with the 2026 car. For that, we will have to wait. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Lewis again insinuating sabotage from the team? "Every set was two or three degrees lower than it should have been, and you can’t catch it up and I couldn’t switch the tyres on after that. That’s something we have to really look at, because something went on with the blankets, I guess"
No…he just stated that something was wrong with the tire blankets… The guy could say: “the sky is blue” and you would say: “yeah, but he’s implying that the sky is really cyan” And now we can breathlessly wait for William to tell us, as he has in EVERY page of this thread, that Hamilton’s over the hill.
Oops, I didn't paste all of the quote: "Well, the tires were working throughout the weekend, then we got to qualifying and every time I went out of the garage, my tires were for some reason below on temperature. Every set was two or three degrees lower than it should have been, and you can’t catch it up and I couldn’t switch the tyres on after that. That’s something we have to really look at, because something went on with the blankets, I guess" Lewis' choice of words sounds insinuating to me. "My tires". This suggests only his tires, not Georges otherwise it should be "Our tires". "For some reason" This suggests a mystery. An occurrence with no reasonable explanation. "I guess". This suggests his doesn't even believe his own statement about the tire blankets. You could be right, maybe something was simply wrong with the tire blankets. We heard nothing of the sort from the team. Since when do tire blankets fail to get up to temperature? Perhaps some would not hear insinuations if Lewis didn't have a long track record of throwing his team under the bus and making claims of unfairness within his team before.
