Push back if you want, but what I said is true. There’s zero corporate requirement beyond having a GTB or GTS that you ordered in your garage. Beyond that, it’s your dealer relationship. If you sell your 296 but have a Laferrari. Tough.
Ok it’s effectively the same thing. Sure, factory says potential buyer can’t have flipped their 296. Fine. There will still only be about 10 to 15 total 296 VS allocated per dealer over an entire 2 year production run, or roughly 5 or 6 cars per year, so good luck trying to get one. As if VIP and Top hadn’t also purchased 296s. Don’t make it out to fellow members here that as long as they still got factory 296 in their garage, they are a shoe in for 296 VS. Far from it. Whether intending to or not, that’s the mistaken impression people could get from a simple statement about factory requirement only.
You'd be surprised how many VIP's flipped their SF90's and were told they blew it for the XX when the time came. Also, Pista isn't a rare car, by rare car standards, they made enough and many who wanted one got one from the dealer over time. Ferrari is a business. They'll make enough VS 296's to go around to those who have SOME clout. You don't need to have 10 Ferrari's to get one.
I didn’t have a 488 before getting a Pista. Hoping not to need a 296 before the VS. the rules seem to not always follow. With SF90XX being limited, sure, keep an sf90. I asked the dealer if I needed a 296, and he seemed to not think so, but wouldn’t confirm either way. Can always snag one if needed.
I can only relay what I was told. There wasn’t a requirement for a 488 to get a Pista. For whatever that’s worth. But I was told this was a real requirement. I too, However, hope you get whatever car you want
Original 296 owners with good standing with their dealers (go to their events, don't be a jerk etc), and the dealer doesn't have dozens of other buyers ahead of you will have 296 VS opportunities. All those things. Large dealers have so many seasoned past clients ahead of the new clients the new clients have zero shot at getting early orders (for desirable cars) let alone cars like the VS. Anyone have any intel on the 296 VS Spider?
Just came back from a local Ferrari Track Day to which I took the Pista and not my Challenge Car. The track was very vertical with virtually just one flat straight. So plenty of body Roll. Had the Pista on semi slicks as the track was dry the entire day. I love to drive the Pista; to me it still is about the most hardcore street car you could have bought in recent years from Maranello. It's much, much more hardcore then the 812C. After pushing the Pista, the dealer handed me the keys to a 296gtb demo. Bad move (from them) as this little beastie was about to receive some punishment. It was a staggering performance to be quite honest. Where the Pista wants you to drive fast, wants to push you and wants you to feel every corner, body roll and small peble underneath the car. The 296 just 'elegantly' smashes my best Pista times without almost breaking a sweat. I was going comfortably 10km faster on the straight. Now the power wasn't what impressed my the most, it was the suspension set up. The car almost fgeels like it's anb 4wd drive. it was on street tires but just had so much grip compared to the Pista. Mind blowing with how much ease AND fun I had whilst driving this car on the car. If this is any forbode of the 296VS it will be an epic car. Hybrid or not. At this strage I could care less if it has the hybrid or not. If Ferrari can 'hardcore up' the 296 a bit it will a really serious, serious weapon and probably the fastest car they will have ever build.
from a used value perspective vs performance it's hard to beat the 296 atm imo, it's such a great buy
@Maximus1973 funny you mentioned the word elegant! My exact description when I had my own experience yesterday on the streets of Torrence where my dealer is. Elegant and refined but fierce and brutal if need be!! The 750S was still fresh from two days prior, so it was a great comparison. Order locks on Memorial Day and second deposit has been wired. Jan/Feb 2025 delivery estimated.
It's such a refined car. Especially that balance was truly, truly great. Again, I could not believe the cornering speed I was achieving without actually stressing the car. You quickly feel what the limit of most cars is, when pushing hard on a track, the 296 did my stress tests with ease. The word "big go-kart" has been used by many reviewers, but that is 100% true. The ease of which this car picks up speed and manages to balance out the ride is just mind blowing. One of the best driving Ferrari's... ever!
From first glimpse, I wasn't sure about the car. But still put deposit towards both GTS/GTB. Last year I went to the corsa piloti event, and car absolutely blew me away on pretty much, all perspectives. One thing I want to mention the most is the traction out of the corner, just spectacular. After I took delivered of the GTS by the end of last month, can't stop driving it. One of the best driving street legal car Ferrari has ever made. Driving ability wise, arguably the best. Still looking forward to the GTB since I like the back of the GTB more. Speaking about the VS, have roma/sfspider/gts in the stable. Purosangue/296gtb locked in. Still got told is only a strong yes, nothing guaranteed. L
in 2018 I went to Ferrari Dallas. I wanted to order a Pista. They told me even if I ordered a several other new Ferraris they couldn't guarantee me a Pista. They said (joking of course) 10+ long time clients who have been buying and selling with Ferrari Dallas for decades would have to die before I had a chance of being top 25 at their store. Oh, and we only anticipate getting 10 Pistas. (not an exact quote, but you get the idea). They then suggested I head down to the new (ish) Ferrari Austin store and offer them the same deal. I did. We ordered a Port, Lusso and 812 and we had one of the first Pistas in NA in early 2019. What was the difference? Ferrari Austin wanted to expand their allocations, they needed new car orders. Bottom line, the dealership truly matters. Consider having more than one Ferrari store you do business with. You need an address local to that Ferrari store in order for them to take you on as a new car client.
Yes the dealership matters and their clout with Ferrari . Let’s face it there are over 240 dealers globally , all with ‘good’ customers by their own definition . What does that mean ? It means are you good to the dealer, sales wise and personally .
This is what happened to me at corso pilota. I really didn’t want to like the hybrid! Instead I loved it. Pestered my dealer until I got an allocation, should be here in a couple of months and then hopefully the VS! I spend a lot of time on track in a bunch of different cars and this one blew me away.
The street version of a Challenge car..... Hmmm, huge upgrade in aero and more power. If that is the case, it will be the fastest Fiorano car BY FAR!
No the challenge car makes less power but has more downloaded and lighter. These attributes may make it faster at Fiorano but won't matter much on the street.
No way it will show up the SF90 XX. That's the company's flagship (apart from the upcoming hypercar of course).
Officially yes, but unofficially..... It wil be for sure a car that's more fun to drive on the track vs the SF90XX.
The original stipulation pertained to lap times and that' s the part I answered to. Driving fun is subjective anyway.
