You better say that about everyone who claims to sell OEM parts then because if it is OEM there is only one source.

To those who do not seem to know what OEM means, it does not mean a part that has been made exactly the same its entire existence.

Even Ford and Chevy buy parts from multiple suppliers. No matter the original source, if they came from the Chevy dealer in a Chevy box they are all OEM.

Do you really believe that the parts Mercedes is selling today for the Gullwing are the same as what came on the car? I can tell you with direct experience they are not.

 

As I said, I have no experience with their (or anyone else's) reproduction parts for TR's, per se, but plenty with 365 GTB/4 related stuff.

Full disclosure, I myself have reproduced various parts for latter, including windshields & all other glass + same for numerous other vintage cars and have gone to quite lengths & costs in my efforts to make them as close to authentic as possible.
Many others seem to often prefer "Well, that'll work" or something.

 

So you wouldn't deduct points for that toolkit or this knob?

I get what you're saying, but some items are questionable. I'd say that even if F delivered them themselves.

 

Good for you. People all over the world are doing that. Its hardly unusual. Some of the 250 oil pressure hoses supplied by MCP are now aeroquip hose instead of the old brown wire wrapped hose. Their mission is to keep cars on the road. Not win Pebble Beach. There is a lot of dissatisfaction going on since Roger Penske bought it. They never promised to supply restoration quality parts. But they are OEM. They are the only OEM and if someone is offering OEM, ITS THE SAME SOURCE.

They are trying to keep cars on the road. No one, Not Ford, Mercedes Benz or Ferrari promised parts that would win shows.

I needed a new engine once for a Mercedes Gullwing. They were still supplied by Mercedes (they still are now) I uncrated it and it was an aluminum engine for a late 300SL Roadster. I called and asked what gives? They said thats what we supply, want it or not? It was in every way OEM. But it was very different. Ferrari is doing no different.


Ferrari for at least 20 years has not supplied TR windshields. They are in fact 512 TR windshields. Different from a TR windshield. OEM OR NOT OEM?

 

Like the toolkit and the knob.

Like I said, I understand what you're saying. Would you deduct points for that knob? Or the toolkit?

Would you deduct points for the HE knob, which obviously has the wrong materials/finish, but the digits are closer to the originally delivered knob.

Again, let review. OEM does not mean exactly the same.

Some parts for a 1986 TR are different than for a 1988 but were superseded. Does that mean they are not OEM? Make as much sense as your argument.

 

You guys need serious tutoring on the English language. You have no concept of the meaning of common words.

I think most people use OEM and OE interchangeably.

 

Being that English is not my native language or having never received any formal/official education/tutoring for it, I've always thought, perhaps incorrectly or mistakenly, that OEM, at least to me, means the given item/part is made by the Original Equipment Manufacturer (let's say Auto-Lite, ATE, Bosch, Koni, Magneti Marelli, Scaglietti, etc) who supplied it to specifications implemented by those who commissioned its production (let's say Chrysler, Ferrari, Voltswagen, etc), not something made by someone else or to different specifications, which in my mind would be aftermarket and/or reproduction.
But I didn't come here to argue and won't continue in hopes of making someone's day/life easier.

 

And that changes nothing. OE parts change during and after production and have since Gottlieb Daimler invented the automobile.
It even says so in the brochure "Specifications can change without notice".
You just fail to even attempt to understand what that means.

 

KONI and Bilstien both supplied shocks for the 328. Which is OEM?

The one that came out of the Ferrari box is. That is what OEM means.

That's fine, so long as most people understand that parts that don't match the originals will result in points deduction.

Showing up with that toolkit and not getting points deducted because MP made it would be an aberration.

Ferrari quit supplying metric wheels a very long time ago. Did you read my post about Mercedes engines? You can want all you like. TR windshields were discontinued while 512 was in production. Should we complain?

I think they're more nuanced with their classifications than Brian's arguing. The parts they have made are tagged MP.
