So give us a reminder of your AC and cooling systems: Stock? Modified? If modified, how so?

So mainly from amazon you got the compressor and the Four Seasons drier and expansion valve? Did you have to mess around with pulleys, belts etc?

Didn't have to mess with pulley's and belts. Just moved the clutch and pulley assembly and mounting studs over to the new compressor.

Yes. You may have to change your schrader valve fittings if you don't already have R134a ones.Yes, Early '77 USA GTB #21561

Thanks for posting all this info. I have been thinking on converting from R12 to R134A for some time. I think I might have to change out the lines as well because they are the R12 fittings and when doing one of my belt changes, I noticed a cut in the metal covering surrounding the rubber line. Looks like a no-burst line for washing machines. That cut, about 1 inch long, allowed a slight budge in the line so I put a screw clamp around the line at that point to add strength. I know, it's a red-neck approach to a repair, but I would expect it to work better than duck tape. :)

If it is the first time going from R12 to R134a you need to flush the system with nitrogen, then pull a vacuum before charging with R134a.

I know the big part of the project is the AC but I'm liking the engine temp, is driving and sitting, full hot?

I remember years ago 2000 or 2001? when I was -planning cooling system upgrades looking at getting a cross flow radiator made because it add...10% more surface area? I remember it was a pretty big number but maybe not a full 10%. Is it also thicker than stock?

My now retired nascar aluminum radiator fabricator designed and made the cross flow radiators for me. It is something like 17% more surface area going cross flow. The core used, while not much thicker, has rows of long oval pipes that I guess are more efficient as that was the only thing that kept my hot 3.4L build cool, worked tons better than stock and weighed a quarter of that of the stock radiator

    Mark,
Yes those gauge pics are full hot. One cruising and one at a stop.

    I went for a drive today...95 degrees...70% humidity...Heat index 110 degrees...gauge looks the same!

    The radiator is 3" thick.

    Ferraripilot did a great job!

Wow, a screw clamp to fix a bulging A/C line on a Ferrari? You gotta be kidding!

Just pony up the money for a proper repair - Duck Tape AND a screw clamp! :) :) :)

The OE AC hoses were not great at retaining R12. They are pretty bad with 134a. Factory spec with R12 was annual recharge was acceptable.

Did you use the existing hoses or did you also replace those?

Which "hoses" are you speaking of? If you are talking about the refrigerant lines, they are the stock/originals, not replaced.

I looks good and appear to work very well. I remember wondering why on earth ferrari chose vertical flow for a radiator with that shape, the cross flow make so much more sense. If your guy is retired I think Griffin will make most anything, I also most used them but keeping it stock compatible wasn't a big concern for me and I found the one I used for like $180...bigger, better, cheaper so that's what I did.

Thanks. That's another reason to have hoses made using the right material for R134a.

There's definitely a few places that will make it, but I don't know if they have access to the same cores my guy had, which were bespoke to him and his race clients. That said, I can't imagine super secret core material would make THAT much of a difference but who knows
