Correct Marcel, we sold 57487 to a famous entertainer and serial Ferrari Supercar collector, I'm sure you know who.

It's sublime interior, note no radio, I drove this GTO here in California, and it's a quick one.

    Hello Mr. Massini,
I'm having a tough time contacting you regarding a request.
I have a client wanting to purchase a few Retro Ferraris in the USA. He would like an Appraiser to come along with him to guide him in this process.
Everything would be paid, of course (flights, hotel, etc...)
I am curious if you could reach out to me so we can discuss this further, as well as if you could Quote me a price that I can communicate with my client.
    Best,
    LB

Is there that much variable in the seat of the pants dynamometer readings between various 288GTOs?

I saw the Lauda GTO just a few months back in our local shop. I’ve wondered what that car would do, or would have done at auction after his passing. To me he is an icon, the toughest man in F1.

Many found themselves in poor states of tune and not long after they got here. In my experience once put right by the numbers not skipping the outlined steps they are quite consistent. May be one of the issues is I have personally seen very little good information to perform that sort of tune outside of the factory training school documents. In the US very few of us attended. Of those I only know 3 of us who have not retired or left the business.

    Yes.

I've been offered twice the price of a standard GTO, and this, a car sanctioned by Enzo himself for his Ferrari F1 World Champion, the final GTO delivered, and the only one in 1986, warrants it. Provenance.

J.R is a fantastic advocate to the brand, what I thought was interesting is that he feels only 10% of all GTO’s so 27 car are investment grade.. that’s a small number of cars for the available market. And they reject 3/4 of all cars offered

So if that is 55229 and really has 5'486 kms (per website listing), why did the same car have 9'700 kms in October 2002 when I saw it at Auto Koenig in Munich, Germany?
    Just asking.......

To be honest, it's quite alarming how many 288's have mileage and questions regarding history.. sad state of affairs really.

As said by me so many times already, potential buyers really must do their homework first, before they write a check for 3, 4 or 5 M bucks.
288 GTOs are forty years old now. A lot of things have happened between 1984 and 2024. In 1983 I saw the first prototypes in and around Maranello and I immediately began keeping track of all 288's and I still do this today, all over the planet. 288s were stolen, crashed, burnt, totalled, disappeared, customised and modified, repainted, renumbered, recreated, rebuilt, etc., Same with F40s, F50s, Enzos, LF/LFA's.

Just this March 2024 I found in Japan a 288 which had been stolen in the south of France in June 1987 and then disappeared for the next 37 years. That 288 had been renumbered (by the criminals) and now uses the number of another genuine 288 (which is in FL). As a 288 owner you may not like the fact that there is a second 288 using the same identity as your own car..........

Below is a pic I took 18 July 1983, one of the prototypes on the way from the factory towards the entrance gate of the factory's Fiorano racetrack.

This is very interesting, as a calculated guess how many genuine 288 GTO's still exist with less than 5k would you say.

It’s very interesting that if you read the ad for this 288, they talk about all the documentation to collaborate the mileage and how they look for 288 odometer issues / tampering.

I think the safest route to a purchase is to find a one owner car that everyone knows about.. in a good way... so at least you can speak to the owner and hear it from the horses mouth. All these cars with multiple owners and multiple countries is a mine field.. The epitome of title and history always seems to have so many holes.

I would imagine the air gets exceedingly thin if you were to limit your search for a 288 to those cars that are still with their original owner.
