Hmmm....that GTX reference begets a question. Wasn't sub-Lime one of paint colours for the 'Cuda & Chaallenger?
They should have been! Yes, for street, I bolted on some short mufflers, to keep things relatively quiet. But lets get back on track. Image Unavailable, Please Login

This is in a slightly different vein but car executives had some interesting perks when it came to developing new ideas for racing as a part of promoting new products. Nothing happened without management approval be it design or engineering. Sometimes you could stack the deck in your favour if you knew the executives 'interests' for getting things done. One such example was this 1968 Camaro Z/28 convertible that should not exist. Vince Piggins to get various racing parts approved for Roger Penske had a special 1968 COPO Camaro built. This was to get approval for 4 wheel disc brakes and a unique dual staggered carburetor intake manifold with cowl induction hood that would get approval for 1969. Pete Estes enjoyed convertibles and loved this custom build 1968 Camaro. Vince Piggins got the executive approval for those racing parts and a 1 of 1 Camaro still exists today as a result of later owners realizing what a unique Camaro they owned. One of the later owners of this special Camaro was a local Detroit drag racer Al Maynard. I can't remember who the designer was, or if I read the quote online or heard it in a documentary, but I recall the essence of the phrase was: "He was a great fan of aerodynamics. Unfortunately, he didn't understand anything about it, so at speed his designs generated lift and drag." I wonder if that applies here. All the best, Andrew.
Yes! And I'll add to the mix, a General Motors VP Design was once quoted as saying, " it's too bad aero had to go that way."
