Im curious to know why there are different part numbers for the door unlock switch for the the 5.2 cars depending on assembly car number..,,?

For example, for the 5.2 cars, the Door unlock switch P/N is as follows..

F # 165260 Valid till Assy Car Number 22931 (LHS image below )
F # 171076 Valid from Assy Car Number 22932 (RHS image below)

Im curious to know what the exact reason is for this,,?
Are the switches cosmetically different..? ( illumination icon/symbol fascia ), or is there an electrical reason for the part number change..? ie ( prongs/PCB or even wiring harness plug plug differences)

My door unlock switch has been damaged and im hoping to swap the circuit board from my later switch into an earlier switch housing.. and im hoping it will look the same in the vehicle with the other 5.2 switches

Here are some photos I found on line for each switch..

Is it just me or does the ''grain' of the icon fascia appear different in texture ie more rough on the earlier switches..?

No electrical differences. Looking at the two images, the most noticeable difference is the shape of the button (and possible decal texture differences).

Dave Rocks, if you're out there?

Yes that's what I thought.. Cosmetic differences only..

Ian, as regards the momentary centre dash missile switches, specifically the door unlock and lock.. this time..
I assume the PCB/electricals are the same on each switch such that if i swap them round in the plugs on the vehicle they would behave the same..

Ie: Door unlock switch in Door lock plug = still works as per normal..?

Correct. It's a handy feature for faultfinding. Also, as parts are getting rarer, it's good to be able to swap switch parts to create rare switches. Just don't attempt it without opening up the switch in a plastic bag. Those springs disappear and can't be found.
