he didnt understand his audience. i suspect he is the guy that goes to comedy clubs and heckles the comedian.
Think permanent this time unless he writes an apology to the mods. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
There is a fine line between friendly banter and the development of a clique that puts people off joining. The Australian section of the forum sadly has descended into the latter. It is easy to get wrapped up in the humour (humor even) until you realise that you are only one of a small number and its funny because you know the ‘in’ joke (eg Eric’s driveway). But if you were lurking on the forum your lack of knowledge of the in jokes makes the humour irrelevant at best and off putting at worst. I think the mods are right to maintain a level of control, I wish they would visit Australia more often.
I don't know about a "clique" but the forum being a spirited fun place I think would lead to more people wanting to be a part of it. This isnt like most car forums most of the content here isn't about the technical side of the cars and whatever technical there is it's not as if that would go away. Not my show anyway, just talking here.
I don’t disagree, just saying it’s a fine line. Go take a look at the comments here for an example. Note the title of the thread ..https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/the-ferrari-market-watch-thread.125837/page-2098
There's lots of banter on FChat and generally that's welcomed. The problem is the derogatory tone of the banter from a small group who liked to use inflammatory and pejorative terms among themselves and also directed at others, including brand new members who had joined to ask for help. It created an environment that other members viewed as unwelcoming at best and toxic at worst. It will take a little while for the 458/488/F8 section to recover, as some owners reported actively avoiding it due to the boorish tone. Many problematic posts by Eric C over the last year have been addressed in isolation and mods have explained, sometimes with short expiring bans to emphasize the point, that such "jokes" (if they can be called that) do not comply with our rules for the model forums and indeed some language is prohibited anywhere on our site. It had been hoped that Eric could continue to participate without making others feel uncomfortable. However, instead of resolving to do better, the actions of Eric and a few in his orbit have been to laugh about the bans, lament upon their returns that the Karens must have reported them again to get the killjoy mods in to enforce the rules, and carry on as usual. The response of the wider community (and the mods too) in reports, posts across the forum, and PMs is that people are fed up of this shtick. In light of Eric's failure to take personal responsibility for his posted content, instead always deflecting blame onto others for being too sensitive, we see no prospect at this time for any meaningful reform or good faith participation if the ban was lifted. It would be a disservice to the community to readmit a banned member under those conditions. All the best, Andrew.
I think there are sub-sections better suited for inside jokesters than the model specific areas where people primarily seek to learn about their cars and help others.
I get what you're saying, but if I can throw in my .02 as a recently de-lurked member... This is what he got banned for: I don't know about you, but I don't see the joke/humor/banter there. Especially when delivered deadpan to a newbie with no evident history of interaction with Eric before. It wasn't my thread, I didn't report it, but as someone in a similar situation (new-to-me FCar goes into limp first time at track day) I wouldn't have felt very welcome/supported/amused by this "joke" either when I'm posting about a pretty scary technical issue. I'm no stranger with pushing the edges of forum rules and such, but to me it sounds like @NeuroBeaker did the right thing here.
I turned myself into the F chat Police Rossa section and am awaiting my punishment as I was Eric See (Eric Seelander). I thought it'd be funny and I don't want to C him get the blame for something I did. So no more burnt turbos at least for now. Moving on and getting back to the spirit of the model specific forum. What do you think of Rossa Corsa as a color?
I'm not sure what Eric did since I put him on Ignore long ago. 22 years on Fchat and my patience with posters who post to stir the pot has reached zero.
So what is the big deal about writing an apology ? He was in the wrong here. I don’t see the big issue if he wants to come back. Maybe it will help him in the future dealing with others inside and outside FCHAT.
Agree! I can understand "both sides" although the world gets to offended for nothing theese days... no one can say nothing... I'm just tired of it and miss the old days.
I don't know if he wrote one or not. I mean, I assume not since he's not back on here. I don't know him so I don't know if he wrote one or if mods said it wasn't good enough or who knows. and I can't believe people are saying 'he was in the wrong'.. how is that even a sentence? WHO can actually say those words and think like that after the age of 6?? I mean seriously, what he said was SOOOOOO mild (I know the ban was cumulative- blah blah blah).. but is there really ANYTHING that's 'wrong' to post on an online forum of adults??? ANYTHING??? I say there isn't. Absolutely nothing. There isn't a word or a group of words that I could ever read or hear that I could call 'wrong'. Toughen up.
Todd, I'm not sure why you're criticizing the grammar of others when "He/I was in the wrong." is grammatically correct in English. When you created an account here, you agreed to these terms of use and these terms of service and rules: Terms of Use Terms of Service and Rules When you are the owner and Administrator of FerrariChat, you will have the authority to unilaterally decide what the rules are and what the forum standards will be. Until then, these are the rules we'll be enforcing. It is not us who need to adapt to join you at your preferred standard, it is you who needs to adapt to the standards you have already agreed to uphold. If you can no longer tolerate those rules, you may leave. You've taken several opportunities to infer that other forum members are children for not appreciating your tone and that you're the adult in the room. This will cease immediately. If you cannot behave like a gentleman you will be removed. Thread closed. All the best, Andrew.
