For me it was a race that was spoiled by two "rules." First, the mandatory tire change is absurd...let the teams stop as little or often as their strategy dictates, and use whatever tire they feel gives them the best chance of winning. Same with sprint weekends as well...no tire rules in qualifying...let the teams decide based on what is best for them. Second, DRS has to go...it makes passing a gimick. Let the drivers either get by on power or slip streaming or guts...but no "equilizer" technology.

I am content that both drivers paid the price albeit Mr V got away with it, but thats called racing. Rubber Duck goes to Piastri snitching on Hamilton...........is that really the reason for driver comm's!!

Good that Sainz got into the top three but serious questions must be asked as to why they are letting this bloke go, infinately more reliable than LeClerc, his race strategy and the fact that they are going backwards in development, they are now 4th!

Footage from above which shows the trajectory of both drivers before and during the braking zone up untill the crash in turn 3.

Max defended the inside line initially. When Lando committed to the outside of the corner, Max also let his car run in a straight, but slightly skew line towards the outside. Thereby squeezing Lando a bit at the end of the corner, letting him know it was his corner. He could've left Lando a bit more room without compromising his own corner too much IMO. But it's clear that it was Max's corner. Lando was never ahead of Max, for instance.

Another striking point is that Lando does nothing to avoid contact. Once at the, give or take, 75m point, he let's his car go pretty much straight on while he still has lot's of room on his left side, on the curb, to avoid that contact. And he could see Max coming, since he was still clearly ahead. Horner actually said after the race, that he had the impression that Lando did it on purpose. And now I understand why he said that.

Finally, what some seem to forget, these guys are racing. And this is clearly a racing incident. At the highest level in motorsport drivers do not have to hand out gifts.

Just an observation but isnt that forcing another driver off the track.........

If he had the ability to stay in front then defend the optimum part of the track.

Yet the Stewards with data in large volumes/angles they have saw it differently. Of course Horner will point the finger at Mclando. Should he do otherwise. Its not his point to concede but Max's who is on record stating he did nothing wrong lol. He had no reason to drift at that point given his turn would be opposite. Daft is this response. The utter obvious about it did not get missed in the Stewards office.

Oh I know, I know they know nothing and hinder racing. Reverse ALL of this and then comment LOL :) Too many Max fans want it both ways as if he is perfect.
We have some objective ones here who see it otherwise.

IMO it's a racing incident BUT with Max taking the largest portion of the blame.

It could have been avoided by Lando. When Leclerc did the same to Max a few years ago, Max simply used it as an opportunity to adjust his own line as well and completed the move on the next straight. Max was squeezed more that time than Max squeezed Lando yesterday.

Lando did have the right to hold the line in the manner that he did, ergo, Max was at fault.

See the footage in Bas's post.

Max conceded to Charles in that very same corner in a completely similar incident, unlike Lando. Charles even squeezed Max quite a bit more than Max did to Lando. Max was almost completely on the curbs.

But he used it to his advantage, were Lando kept his car stubbornly on the tarmac not trying to race. Horner has a point.

I was and as much as I love Schuey he drove like an arse sometimes, Vettel was a pig for multi 21, Senna had his license pulled by God for being a mega pig of a driver

Max had a bad mentor in his father so he gets some latitude from me when the racing gets tight

I normally agree with your outlook but I think NOR is the same type of driver as Max, a pig, hotheaded twit

Oscar drives calm and collected, doesn't whine and is the new Kimi, just drove well and will eventually will pass both

Sometimes in racing when an emerging rival starts to challenge the established leader, particularly a heard headed hard racing one he has to be willing to go to contact at least once -sacrifice a race accidentally or by intent- to show that he won't be brushed off.

That is what happened in 2021 between MV and LH....and countless times between others in racing history.

I understand but those are not the current F1 rules. Max moved repeatedly under braking, after Lando committed,
as he usually does, which is why the rule was created.

Is this the definition of Max expecting some one to move over as if he has commanding authority? Horner saying Lando held his ground on purpose Lol how funny is that? You say Lando did nothing to avoid contact. What did Max do to avoid contact?

2023 Austria Hamilton appointed himself as the track limit police. If he wasn't complaining about the car he was on the radio (incorrectly) telling the FIA driver X or Y was committing track limit violations lol

Your mental gymnastics are just spin. A skewed straight line ... right, and a straight line is a curve with zero curvature.

The guy moved constantly under braking, which is why the current rules were created.
The only thing Lando did wrong is not being more aggressive. Hopefully he learns.
