Lando could have taken a wider line and try to cut underneath Max thereby avoiding all the mishigash that happened yesterday. That's how you learn. Max did that move I just described to Leclerc on the same track on the same turn. Masterclass move.
…but with max there will never be a clear shot. Lando will learn to wreck him and then be sure to be 10 seconds ahead when the penalty comes around.
IMO Ricci has a fundamental problem with these cars specifically, they are just too understeery for him and he can't adjust to them properly. He hasn't lost talent...just a limitation in his skill set. IMO Ric will go to do a variety of special entries in NASCAR, indycar, endurance racing...any team would love to have him. He can then make his mind up what to do
When I'm on the track I usually just say "bastard" when things go wrong for me I go and see the track Marshall at the end .... and he tells me to drive better Truth hurts
Maybe the rule needs to be amended that if the driver who is deemed to be at fault is able to continue when the other is not, he is disqualified instead of handed a lame 10 seconds.
He doesn't know how to "defend" without moving after the other guy committed. That's incompetence not masterclass.
Particularly in cases like Max, where he runs a very low risk due to the superior car and points advantage. He can afford the lame penalty. If it happened earlier, he would have won the race irrespective.
Amen! Trying to pass on the outside? Of course your opponent is going to drift over and shut the door. Even if he didn't he still will be blocking the racing line for you to try and go around the outside in that tight space. I've watched it several times now and don't see Max making several direction changes to impede? he simply enters mid corner to stop the inside pass then drifts over a bit on entry to shut the door further. Aggressive? Maybe but hardly over the line IMO. Am still baffled at all the crying over what was just a racing incident. Finally some action and everyone on social whining that the FIA should do something. Why bother racing at all then? Everyone has gotten soft IMO.
This is my point. Using the technical rules to pass is video game playing. Its like the lawyers run the sport. "Hey I got my nose over here so you need to give up the corner and let me pass! That's the rules!" Max is like --- sorry dude. If you want to pass me, do it under my terms. I guarantee Lando would have done the same if the cars were reversed, Just shut up and drive.
Arguing about the incident within the context of what F1 should be instead of what F1 currently IS, is fine as a philosophical argument, but that's about it.
Actually, and you know this very well, every driver/team wants precise technical rules when it suits them. Maxipoo was on the radio whining about being dive bombed and passed over and over despite moving under braking like an amateur, claiming that that's not how you pass. Sure thing, whine on dude. If he wasn't such a princess he would have fought Lando fair and square and put on a show everyone could admire. Instead he resorted to cheap, amateurish cheating. That's why Lando won driver of the day. Upside is F got some smooth p's.
I've rewatched this over and over an d over and I've started to move my own needle. To me it's like the scenario of someone walking in the dark in a bad neighborhood with a wad of cash hanging out your pocket... you should be able to do so... but the reality is, you're gonna get beaten and robbed. I don't understand Lando's moves now that I've seen it without the adrenal glands pumping. It's almost like he's just too impatient. He's so desperate for a win that he doesn't think straight. He had plenty of laps to make that pass. There was no need to keep lunging like that. To me that was poor racing on his part. Max I feel was equally at fault I think. I do feel he was in fact moving under braking, but I didn't think it was egregious. I'd say it was 50/50 now that I've settled down. If Lando didn't touch, there would another 20 pages about how great that battle was and what a great hard win... to either Max or Lando.
I don't agree with a lot of your posts but in the cold light of day they both were to blame but Norris was too impatient
Time for Lando to make his move and become a WDC. His racing with Max reminds me of when Max was challenging Lewis. Mercedes was on the decline, RB was ascending. Now McLaren is ascending and RB has plateaued. If Lando can't make it soon, he time will have passed...same as with Leclerc. If Mercedes makes a comeback in 2025 and eclipses McLaren, that will be Russell's one and only chance to shine and be WDC...after that he is old meat. Piastri and some new younger drivers (Bearman and Toto's new boy wonder as two examples) will be moving in to start new fires. Paying drivers mega bucks is also on a short leash...just isn't give the ROI it used to.
