Since I posted these three pictures I've been looking at them in greater detail and I have no doubt that the back of the Enigma and the 12 C have too many similarities. As the Enigma was presented at the Geneva Motorshow on February 26 and the 12 C around two months later in Miami, it will be very difficult for Manzoni to claim that it was Pininfarina who was inspired by the design of the 12 C rear side. In this case, the doubt about who inspired or copied who will persist. The same did not happened in the case of the 365GTC/4 as Chevrolet copied several parts of the design and introduced them in the 1975 Chevi Monza. Lamborghini also adopted the 365GTC/4 ribbed quarter window trim and black bumpers in their 1973 Urraco but again without the grace of Pininfarina design.
These things can´t be designed and built in a few months. When Pininfarina showed theirs, the Ferrari styling probably was finished already a year ago.
We will never know who plagiarized who, although the similarities between the rear part of the 12 C coupe and the Enigma are quite evident.
Unless somehow Manzoni got a sneak peek of Pininfarina´s car, you can be sure that the similarities are a coincidence. As Pininfarina´s car is a concept and the Ferrari a production car, it´s even possible that Manzoni begun to work before Pininfarina.
Ironically if you watch the video above, the exterior designer. Andrew Militello states the Daytona was not the inspiration for the front rather a they wanted to design a feel of flying through space. I found that interesting as it sure looks like it was.
The lead designer for 12C is Marc Poulain, while Militello was exterior GT Chief. They both worked on the 12C and since Marc is no longer at Ferrari (12C is the last project he worked on), they are presenting Militello as the “lead designer,” which Marc has zero issues with btw. Marc Poulain is a 355 owner. We’ve had some discussion about the design when 12C was released. Enigma had nothing to do with it. Fwiw, he said he didn’t design the wheels though . https://www.instagram.com/marc_poulain_design?igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==
he left ferrari about two years ago... he is at alpine now... the new alpine glow concept designed by him maybe...
… I can ask. He was at Ferrari for a good decade. Started off with interiors… La Ferrari, California T etc… Then moved onto exteriors… 458 Speciale rear, J50, SF90 Stradale, SF90xx, and 812 Competizione.
Fwiw, he says the best colors for 12C are white, silver, yellow, dark blue, and glossy dark red. Hope that helps . Also, no chance in hell for body colored black panels.
haha, that's hilarious. I was leaning into Verde Zeltweg as a dark green, but recently started looking at blues.
https://www.ferrari.com/en-EN/magazine/articles/assetto-fiorano-true-to-its-name?amp=true “A two-tone livery is also available to clients who specify the Assetto Fiorano package. ‘It has been inspired by the world of Ferrari racing,’ explains, Marc Poulain, SF90 Stradale lead exterior designer. ‘We created a longitudinal livery that highlights the characteristics of the Assetto Fiorano: the ‘hammer’ motif accentuates the overhang on the front nose element, and towards the rear of the car your eyes are drawn to the new louvres in the rear screen, and then on to the extended carbon-fibre spoiler.’” … for those who have doubts.
