348 Battery Removal

    Help!! How do you remove the Battery from a 1990 348ts? What was Ferrari thinking?? The battery is on the left-hand side just in front of the taillights housing, far left corner. There is absolutely no room! Not sure if Ferrari moved it in later years. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

    Jack that baby up and start removing the wheel, then unscrew the wheel well panels. Going in from the top almost works but you really need to go in through the wheel well. Pro tip from a guy who almost killed his 348; don’t trust the color of the bullet connect to indicated positive or negative. Double check which side is connected to the frame; that is your negative.

    I agree. There is no way to switch the battery out at the auto parts store. You really need to replace the battery before you have an issue with how difficult it is to swap out.

    They want the battery close to the alternator and the starter, as well as having it low to the ground to help center of gravity.
    Later, they moved it to the front of the car to balance out the weight. There are reasons for the madness.

    Also the battery change is not a standard maintenance procedure, only to be done when necessary which is usually yeaaars apart. Therefore no reason to aim it to be changed if 5 mins instead of 15-30. It's much better that the yearly maintenance targets are easily available on the car.
