I feel the same... Hamilton's talent have kinda been overshadowed by his car. Not his fault that his cars have been great for so long.
He definitly was on the same trajectory as those 2 to me after his first 2 seasons, the kid was special, and fast, and then he had a few lackluster seasons at mclaren where he didnt really dominate button all that much... He was absolutely dominant at mercedes but with all due respect i dont rate Rosberg high in the all time list...

Now if you look at schumacher..man, as much as i think he was a complete prick, the guy was impressive from day one and never stopped to be and overperform till his first retirement, he should have stayed retired imo...

Senna... I mean, unless you saw him live, you just can not explain his abilities. The guy had NO business winning so many races and poles for lotus, yet he did, no business winning so many races in 93 yet he did... Just imo another level...

Again nothing against hamilton, i dont mind him but not my goat.

I think special is a great adjective in this case. Hamilton and Max are impressive drivers, but to watch Senna or some of Schumi’s epic drives they were special, as in other worldly. You had no idea where this extra ability came from, it just arrived at times, and you knew you were witnessing something that couldn’t be defined.

Name one of those races you speak of. I want to watch it. I will see if there is something "other worldly" I hadn't seen another great do.

Personally, I blame the weight of the current cars as it hides the tiny visible details that made the older eras so watchable.

Then there are the tires were 40Kg lighter unsprung weight and all that
the cars were 200Kg lighter weight
    suspension were less refined
    lower downforce
    more drag
    refueling
    unlimited pit speeds
no need to pit for tires
    tires themselves
    ...

Yes I knew the lap of gods was gonna get mentioned. That race start by Senna was one of the greatest displays of driving. And Senna at Monaco was great. Schumi, Hamilton, Lauda, to name a few also has had magical moments. Schumi spain 96 was brilliant. And yes Hamilton's 08 Britain when he lapped the field up to 4th won by over a minute was crazy too. Also when he won all wet races for 5 years straight 2014-2019 I think? Many greats have these "other wordly" moments. But yeah Senna lap of Gods moment is unreal.

If you haven’t witnessed it, I can’t help you. Michael’s 2012 Monaco pole, and changing the brake bias while in the swimming pool. 94 Spanish Grand Prix, stuck in 5th gear for 40 laps. 1992 Spa was an unbelievable maiden victory, and that’s just a few of Michael. If you need further than Lap of the Gods to see otherworldly, you’ll likely never agree.

All brilliant drives. As mentioned above I've seen brilliant drives in the modern era too, including poles.

I’m sure Lewis would have a good laugh at this thread. And I bet doesn’t lose a wink of sleep thinking about whether anyone thinks he or Senna or Michael or whoever is the “GOAT”

Value brand GOAT at best. Schumacher in the 90’s and Senna in the 80’s early 90’s were a different breed. They were head and shoulders above everyone in their eras. I saw all these guys race, Hamilton is a great driver definitely in my top 10 but not at the level of those guys. I would even take prime Alonso over prime Hamilton, his career obviously hasn’t been as successful but on his day he could push a car past it’s limits like Senna or Schumacher.

Sure FA and others could push a given car, but now we see it truly is more car than driver. FA not pushing that Aston much and Max could not drive around the kerb issue inherent in the current RedBull. Generations have little in common now. They are all good hence their results.

Agreed. F1 (and most motorsports) now has minimised the drivers input with too much technology. I rarely watch an F1 race these days. Don’t want to sound like “that guy” but it truly was better back in the day. I’m genuinely perplexed as to why it is so popular now…

I think that the F1 popularity is due to the increased media coverage, and all the entertaining "add-ons" that Liberty has brought in,.
They have also increased the number of races, introduced sprints and now deliver a full calendar like football leagues.
Liberty has capted a new audience, created controversies to keep people interested between races,
Media reports now read like gossip pages, full is speculations, or fake news and the public seems to love that.

The F1 "New Style" is still a novelty that's attracting a different audience. They don't mind to trample on traditions.
We will see if it's capable to resist of test of time. Liberty is "making hay whilst the sune shines", IMO.

As for electric cars, the issue is far from dead. They will make their case on their own merit.
Electrification in Europe would stop dependency from oil producing countries.
But, unfortunatelly, it will take years to convince the public of the benefit of the change.

I don't think Alonso mentioned it being based on wins etc. But yeah its not the full story, a big part of it though.

    To convince public ?
Cost are just too high and this path is far from being demonstrated as an ecological and realistic one..
