Here are the results of my oil analysis. Frankly, I have no idea what this means, but asking the Hollywood Mechanic/Scott to see if this concerns him. I'm hoping that frequent oil tests could let me know if PTU or other problems are likely.

Before I had my PTU oil serviced, my mechanic sent out a sample for testing to see if any hydraulic fluid was present (my hydro fluid reserve tank was a little low, so concern some was lost into gears). The place they sent it too ultimately as not able to test for that fluid, so non conclusive. I would like to know if there is a place where this can be tested.

I've found a small engineering company here in the North of the UK who say they can rebuild the PTU in FFs and GTC4 for £3295.

I've asked for more information but that seems like a deal too good to be true.

that's awesome - so they rebuild yours or send you a rebuilt one in exchange for yours as a core?

I've asked for more information, but from what I gather they rebuild and replace parts:

"A full dismantle and inspection of the PTU, striping the unit down to a bare case making it ready for ultrasonic cleaning. Once completed the following parts will be replaced.

    • O rings - needle rollers

    • Shift folk seals replaced

    • Input shaft bearings replaced

    • Out put side bearings replaced

    • Shift folks seals replaced"

They have a few videos where they're working on them too.

But surly if they just rebuild to original specs & parts without engineering better parts your looking at the same problem
    down the road.

Yes, that would be the one major downside.

But considering this is what Ferrari do at 10 times the cost I don't see it as that much of a bad thing.

A band aid over cancer has never worked, Time and money spent knowing it could happen again at anytime
    seems pointless.

Do all of the aftermarket providers have better than oem solutions? Ie isnt the issue the way the system was engineered as opposed to sub-adequate parts being used?

So does the 2 year FNA warranty that came with the CPO cover the cost of repairs/replacement of the PTU?

Or does one need to buy the power15 warranty to cover the PTU?

Does the power15 warranty still cover the PTU? Lots of conflicting data about this on the internet.

The PTU and DCT are just about the only things which are covered in Power15. But beware that external leaks are not covered. So things like shaft seals on the DCT are off limits and so are leaking hoses for the PTU.

Self insuring seems the way to go now that aftermarket solutions are available and possibly higher quality

I am from Amsterdam and brought my FF yesterday to Martin and Simon. Night boat from HvH to Hw and then a three hours drive. I was in their body shop when they did the PTU swap. You will be able to drive back the same day and catch the 11 pm boat. Easily!

Hi Papou, what is being done by official (!) Ferrari dealers in the US currently is that they take out the PTU and have them shipped to the UK. Then they get other, adapted PTUs back for matters of speed. So, you are on the road again in a matter of days with some luck. Martin told me that he even had 4 PTUs over from the US in one shipment.

I like the FF but i won’t buy because i can’t deal with the BS.
Too bad no one figured out how to rework the cover on the engine to take
    out the PTU .

Some shop in California took the PTU out of a FF however it hasn’t got much coverage. Maybe it’s a mess. Dunno.

Maybe a mess but i think there are not many cars for the aftermarket to bring a solution to the owners so they can eliminate.
And i bet many would want it if they can delete the ptu.
How many really drive the car in the snow…?
