The other option is to buy one in the UK and bring it across.

This is one of the alternatives: https://cars.bonhams.com/auction/29331/lot/190/1974-ferrari-365-gt4-22-berlinetta-chassis-no-17835-engine-no-17835/#photos

As you can see this is a low-milage unrestored car, much like my Dino is.

At £60k this 365GT4 would land in Australia with duties, GST and LCT at about AUD160k- quite a bit cheaper than the green CTS one

But very different cars too one fully restored and one original well maintained - thoughts?

PS I'm retired and the plan is to use 365GT4 and Alfa Giulietta Spider in combination (weather dictated) as daily drivers - crazy as that might sound, because I really have little interest in another Merc ML (or the like) which is my current daily. And the beach and restaurants in Perth aren't that far away ;)

Go with this one if you can mate, that looks beautiful in that colour combo and has nearly 50 years of one ownership.

    Can't go wrong I reckon.

    Hi all

Seems that the CTS 365 GT4 2+2 has sold, so that is no longer an option.

I know that I might be ejected from the Australian Ferrari community even before I arrive for this - but what do you guys think about this as an alternative: https://www.dukeoflondon.co.uk/product-page/maserati-mexico-4700-manual-rhd

The boot and driver's door has poor panel fit, but otherwise it seems OK. It was fully restored 15-20 years ago. The engine was removed in 2016 and heads rebuilt and since then it has done 5000 miles or so.

According to the Mexico register, this car is the last RHD 4700 car made by the factory and one of just 6 made in that configuration. The register also shows that 6 Mexico's were also imported into Australia in period, but these left the factory as LHD and were converted to RHD locally - and all but one of these were 4200's.

I was wondering what people think of them and what their values in Australia might be?

I came across an old advert for one: https://www.lorbek.com.au/stock/details/326812-C000389/1967-maserati-mexico-prestige-cars and this was one of the 4200's brought into Oz in period and converted to RHD b the importer. In addition it was originally a 4200, but seems to have gained a 4700 engine in recent years. So that is one benchmark.

    Thoughts?

I saw that, but thought that it is this one auctioned for $105k in 2020 https://auctions.shannons.com.au/auctions/2020-shannons-winter-timed-online-auction/E7EHK3QCYKD8U63/

Seems since then it shas just been spraypainted and I'm worried about its mechanical state given there are no records about rebuilding / servicing.

    Have you seen it?

It's history I am unaware of but yes I've seen it. I can't comment on anything other than the way it looks in the showroom but fortunately Zagame and Maranello Motorsport are nearby should you want to get it formally inspected.

Best not to take my word though, it's one of my favourite F colours and I think it looked spectacular juxtaposed against boring old Porsches . I just pointed it out in case you were unaware.

    My 2 cents

Just about every 365 in Australia will be a "needs" car. They were cheap until relatively recently and the typical owner deferred maintenance. A respray probably hides a myriad of issues. An engine rebuild in Aus now is probably a $100k exercise. Most cars for sale are probably owners offloading because they bought cheap and can see big bills coming so are cashing in on the rise in values. Then there are the mechanics who have "maintained" some of these cars. Some are just dicks, others have done jail time for fraud and theft. So get an inspection done at a reputable place and be prepared to see a list of major repairs required on just about every car :)

I remember that car as Verde Medio (non metallic) in the early 2000's. Looks like it's been repainted in Verde Medio metallic.

Verde Pino (pine green) is a distinctly lighter shade.

It's not very low kms, it's just been around the clock at least once. As Greg says, the previous owners were definitely on a budget. e.g. $5K would fix the sagging foam in the driver's seat but this level of detail hasn't been pursued. Just make it shiny and hope it will sell.

I like the Mexico. They're good to drive, and very robust, parts are cheap too. Salisbury rear axle, ZF transmission and the Maserati V8 is tough. They do have head gasket issues if not maintained nor assembled properly, but looks like this one has been done. I would check the valve clearances and head torque immediately after purchase.

That car offered for sale looks like tremendous value. You could not fix the metalwork and paint a rusty one for the asking price. The only thing you will need to weigh up is can you live with a V8 instead of a V12? And the solid rear axle.

I love the Mexico interior, it's 1960s jetset with the array of toggle switches and the timber dash. Bearing in mind you'll be in Perth, the Mexico has face level ventilation for the air conditioning. The 365 GT/4 has the vents at the top of the dash. It's not as efficient, despite the compressor being the same.

That Mexico landed and permitted in W.A. appears to be on par with the asking prices here.

Ian, spot on. The car was was repainted, however, it is now Pino Verde. When I inspected the car in 2002 under the ownership of MB, it was a flat green, I have the colour as Verde Scuro.

From MB it ended up on the central coast for some time, then to Gosford Museum, then to TBS. I cannot comment further, it may have had a mountain of recommissioning work performed since the museum's tenure. I don't know.

    Verde Scuro 206 as pictured:
